Best stop on the cruise

Are there restaurants and shops near the port. Thinking about enjoying this city on our own since time seems to be limited. Would love to hear from you since we are first time cruisers.

Mt. Etna was great but Catania as a port was quite a bore, but maybe since we went during August when most locals were out on vacation themselves.

A great place to go. It is the second largest city in Sicily with 375,000 inhabitants. From the harbour you can see Mt. Etna which very striking and huge. Lots to see in Catania. Must have good walking shoes. Lots of cobblestone streets.

Trip to Taormina was great. Ampitheater is cool and the views are the best in Sicily. They have many shops on the way up and down also. Another great place where we did not get nearly enough time.

Went on the Hop on Hop off bus. It was great, walked around town a bit also. We weren't able to get to Mount Vesuvius but had a beautiful view from the ship.

We took the tour to Taormina. It was very beautiful and unique town on the side of a mountain looking down over the coastline!

We toured the volcano, don’t take the 4WD tour, it’s over-rated, you get a total of 5 minutes of actual 4WD-ing in an 8 hour tour

We did a ship excursion to Mt Etna in 4x4 vehicles and went on a short hike followed by a fantastic lunch. Learned a lot about the volcano. Exceptional tour!!
