Review summary

The Prinsendam is a very nice small ship where you cannot get lost on. The decor is old world charm which we loved.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food quality was excellent and the variety endless. The dining room had two sittings for dinner. The specialty restaurant was hard to get reservations for. However, there was always lots of food available.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Entertainment and activities were great. Always had enough to do.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff was friendly and helpful. The dining room staff was the friendliest and were on first name basis.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Service on the ship was great and was kept very clean. Accessibility was good since it was a smaller ship. You got to know your fellow vacationers more easily.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Staterooms were always kept clean and in the evening you would always find an animal on the bed made out of your towels. Great idea. Also a piece of chocolate was on the bed before you retired.

Ports of call

Marseille (Provence), France

5 out of 5
Again here we were for two days. You needed to take the shuttle bus from the ship to the city. Lots to do and see in Marsaille. Taking a boat ride from the old port is very interesting since you go through two fortresses on either side of the port. Also Napolleon had his house built overlooking the sea.
Don't Miss: The boat ride to the Chateau D'if. also The Basilica Notre Dame de la Garde is a must since you can overlook the whole city of Marseille from there.

Melilla, Spainsh Morocco

3 out of 5
There was not to much to see there. The regular ports of Morocco would have been more interesting to see.

Valletta, Malta

5 out of 5
Great port city and wonderful views with fortresses as you enter the harbor.
Don't Miss: Take a trip to the medieval city of Medina which is very interesting to see.

Gabes, Tunisia

1 out of 5
Gabes is not a place to go since there is very little to see and everything is very desolate looking. I believe there would have been nicer ports in Tunisia such as Tunis etc.

Tarragona, Spain

3 out of 5
Very nice city but entails a lot of walking if you want to see a lot. You need a shuttle bus from ship into the city.

Catania, Sicily

5 out of 5
A great place to go. It is the second largest city in Sicily with 375,000 inhabitants. From the harbour you can see Mt. Etna which very striking and huge. Lots to see in Catania. Must have good walking shoes. Lots of cobblestone streets.
Don't Miss: The small city of Teromina high up on the mountain top overlooking the sea Beautiful view of Mt. Etna from there as well. It also has an old Roman theatre.

Alicante, Spain

3 out of 5
Don' miss seeing the Castle Santa Barbara. The view is spectatular. You have a view of the whole city and port. The city itself is very interesting to visit. Lots to do.

Palamos, Spain

3 out of 5
Took a tour from Palamos to the city of Girona and its Arabs Baths. Very nice little town. Has a river running through it that makes you think you are in Venice.

Argostoli, Kefalonia, Greece

3 out of 5
A great a little town in Greece. It is a great place for R & R and just stay for a week or so. Not to much to see

Katakolon (Olympia), Greece

3 out of 5
The town itself is not to large mostly shops at the waterfront and restaurants.
Don't Miss: The medieval city of Olympia is a must to see. The new city of Olympia is quaint and has lots of shops.

Pros: The ship was very nice and small

Cons: Not enough cruise days - to many ports of call. On this sailing the check in procedure was terrible which we have never experienced on a HAL ship.
