This port is the reason we did the trip. My low rating reflects our experience alone and you shouldn't let it dissuade you. The problem in Egypt for our entire cruise ship was twofold: a very late departure from Israel the previous night and heavy traffic on the way to Cairo. We tried to pack 18 hours of things into a 12-hour excursion, and in the end it turned out to be hours on a bus coupled with, "hurry-up-and-get-off-you've-only-got-five-minutes." On the upside, they did leave the great pyramids and the Sphinx open an extra hour to accommodate our tour buses. On the downside, it was dark when we arrived there and we only got a matter of a couple of minutes. Still, they did everything they could -- even gave 25% refunds to everyone who had an excursion -- and didn't deserve the amount of griping I heard. The sights of driving in Cairo and the squalor surrounding the Nile aren't for the faint-hearted. But Egypt's wonders absolutely shouldn't be missed in a lifetime.

One word, incredible! We did the overnight excursion, and we're so glad we did! We got to see everything we wanted too, plus some! The Four Seasons we stayed was stellar! Our guide was the best of the whole trip, we learned so much and didn't feel to rushed at each sight. We saw things we had only dreamed of seeing our entire lives. What an amazing, life changing experience.

The trip to Cairo and back were about three hours each. Be prepared to be aggressively approached by people selling items...it was stressful at the Pyramids because we were bombarded with locals wanting to take our picture and everything you can imagine...they are quite bothersome and made the trip hardly worth it. The day was way too long and there was only a short time at the sites, mainly pyramids. We had a fairly nice lunch on a boat, which took us down the Nile not very far.... Also, they took us to a Mosque....I wasn't interested in that at all and then to shopping at a store of their choice...all the buses went to one store...that guy made a fortune off the tourists and the excursions must get a cut. The store did have a good selection, however. Be prepared to see trash everywhere in Egypt...all along the streets and highways. Just think they could take that and recycle it...clean up the city and make some money too.

Cairo, Pyramids & Tombs was the trip we selected and it was a pretty good trip. We didn't seem to spend much time at the Pyramids and just drove by the largest of them all. It is a very long day with a lot to cover. The vendors are a little aggressive so listen to your tour guide when they tell you to ignore them. We had an excellent buffet lunch at 5 star hotel. The stop at the end of the day at the papyrus institute was a little long because you are just ready to get back to the ship.
