Chania is wonderful. Make sure to hit the big market for shopping. There is a pottery shop on one of the tiny shopping street run by a mother and son and they make beautiful pieces, I brought one home with me!!

When docked in Souda, we took the “IQ10 Real Crete” which drove around the island to some high spots with great views of the water. It ended in Chania with over an hour of free time. We’re not shoppers so we were a little concerned about killing time, but the harbor area and markets were very nice and we then wished we’d had more time.

We were greeted by Greek music and dancers, then a grand display of foods from the region for us to sample. We took a shuttle for 3 Euro per person into the market which was incredible. More dancers and they gave us a bottle of Raci, a local liquer. We ate lunch in the market where the fish was prepared and served after being supplied by the monger in the next stall. The owner of the restaurant was very friendly and gave us a plate of snails because we were unsure of them. Great experience. When we returned, they supplied us with gift bags with a DVD of Crete and some additional product samples.

Went to a monastery called, Arkadi which was the Greek equivalent to America's Alamo during the war with Turkey. This was site was considered very important.
