Chania was a surprisingly lovely place to visit. Took a tour “Taste of Crete” where we visited some historical churches, typical villages, olive plantation and winery followed by a couple of hours browsing the port town of Chania, I would go back as this was my first taste of Greece.

We only had 4 hours in port, which was a complete shame as the island is so big and there are so many things to see. But, I'd rather have seen just a bit of it, than nothing at all! Instead of just going to the old town, we did a tour Agia Triada monastery and some viewpoints over the city, along with the old town. It was great!

We had a very short visit of only a couple hours. From the port you can take a public bus for 3.60 euro round trip. You pick the bus up where it drops you off by the old market. We enjoyed eating and walking around. There were banks and shipping. I would love to go back.

The Island of Crete was one of our favorites. We docked at Chania Souda. It was like old world with technology. Felt safe here. We hired a driver to take us out for the day about 5 hours. Lefteris Nikiforakis is the owner and was our Taxi driver and he was amazing. We went to see many things and experience things on this beautiful island. There were mountains here in which there was still snow visable on the top. Many flowers blooming here. Just beautiful. The things we went to see include Market Building at the Venetian Port, Lighthouse & Turkish Mask, Apera which is a 3500 Yr old Minoan town euro 2.5 to get in, drove through the Country side: Stilos, Neo, Choria Armeni, Kalives, Vamos. We tasted the local foods and drink like yogurt, honey olive oils and more. Crete was my favorite island.

This was one of our favorite ports. We took public transportation into the old town area, and spent the day exploring. The town was clean and charming, the scenery was beautiful, and there were plenty of restaurants. The people were not overly pushy, and we had a great time.

We went under our own steam and visited the old part with the beautiful little port with colorful boats in them and the sea so clear you can see directly to the bottom. Where I got a bit squiffy on ouzo and lemonade! Well it was lunchtime! Will be going back again for sure.

Best of Knossos Palace & Heraklion Town - much too crowded again - not enjoyable at all - might be different at another time of the year but disappointing because of the crowds. This was an excursion I was particularly looking forward to.
