We took a bus tour across the countryside to the other side from the port. Our guide was most-excellent and spoke great English. The beach we went to was nice. The local beer was good. The food was great. Depending on the day of the week you may find some shops closed, which is typical in Europe. We also went to the fort and found it to be really cool! The wind from the sea is strong, and you can see forever from the top. Seeing the military fortifications from the Nazi days was sobering but historical. I think Albania will become more and more popular so go now while it’s still a hidden treasure.

This is a brand new port that needs quite a bit of work in order to be worth the money for a tour. The monastery I found to be a little dangerous in that the steps and getting to the monastery were not well kept and I found it to be a hazard. I also think to improve all of the ports you should be able to shop for at least a half hour. It would help the economy in each port and it is an enjoyable and very entertaining activity.

Sarande is the gem port!!! Due to my Mom doing some work for a travel company, we received a free personal tour for 10 hours. We had a driver, a tour guide and a comfy Mercedes. We went to the Blue Eye, probably the most beautiful place I have ever seen. We went into Central Albania to Ghirijokastor, then back to the coast to Butrint, a world UNESCO site. If you get the chance, go to Albania.

Do not just walk off the ship! You get bombarded by locals wanting you to go with them in their taxi or on their trip, they’re desperate almost begging. The market stalls along the front are ok for a bargain but some of the stall holders were aggressive. The younger children were honestly scared here and I was not comfortable. I would recommend an excursion on this stop or a day on the boat!

We hired a taxi between 4 of us for a 3 hour tour taking in some breathtakingly unspoilt views and beaches as well as the Blue Eye spring. The city isnt quite up to speed yet with tourism but the locals are welcoming & appreciative of those that venture there.
