Beautiful at the top, but so difficult to get to and from. Lots of hills, scary bus rides, crowds and heat

We took a half day excursion around the island. The geology is astounding, the ship bobbing about in a volcano, amazing. The island in comparison is nice, the picture postcard white villages are precisely that but are in danger of being over touristy. Nevertheless well worth the visit

Had to use tenders...didn't visit port. The city is very pretty but very hot and humid! We did the Greek Opa! excursion that was a fun time for the family

Took a tour. Too many ships in port at the same time and departing around same time. Not able to take cable car down. Too many people. Started walking down donkey steps. Broke ankle. Taken too ship medic. Next day taken to hospital in Athens where I had operation and spent a week there

It’s as beautiful as the pictures. Did a bus tour and had plenty of time on our own.

Spectacular views from Oia and Fira. We decided when we got to Fira that we would go on a excursion with one of the promotors on the harbour. This included a boat to Oia and a bus from the harbour at Oia to the town and then a bus back to Fira. We were waiting on the bus for 45 minuets. Lots of scrabbling to get on the bus and then no seats. When we got to Oia we only had 30-60 minutes to explore as we had to get back to the ship. The car park was like a cattle market one poor man trying to manage a lot at panicking people. People pushing in front of others and going around the back of the bus to get on first and pushing family on I order to get all of their family on the bus, total nightmare. Spoilt the whole day. The fact that there were four cruise ships in port was the main reason for this I think. I would probably recommend going with cruise line for this day, especially if port is busy. Breathtaking place worth a visit on quieter days. Towns are small and struggle with large volumes of people. We walked down the steps past the donkeys in Fira, back to the tender. The queue for the cable car was hours long.

Took the bus tour to Oia and Fira. What a great trip . Also, didn’t take the donkeys. Took the cable car. Had a glass of wine over looking the sea. Beautiful view. Can’t say enough about this trip.

Beautiful port from the ship However with 5 cruise ships dumping 1500 passengers or more onto this tiny place ruined it for us. To crowded and out tour was to crowded as well.

As there were three ships anchored off, the line for the cable car was very long so allow plenty of time to get up to Fira

We took a half day independent excursion here. This was our least favorite stop of the whole trip. The island was overly crowded with tourists for the day - I think there were 6 or 7 ships in port that day. The port of Fira is definitely not equipped for that volume of people, and Oia was also incredibly overcrowded. The cable-car line to return to the tenders was exceptionally long, and we ended up making the hike down the donkey/mule trail which was not the most pleasant experience with the heat, the crowd and the smells.
