The ruins in Ephesus are really quite extensive and amazing to see, even after visiting the Acropolis in Athens!

The ruins in Ephesus have only been 10% excavated and the area is huge. Go to a carpet making demonstration. It is so interesting to see what the local women produce by hand, and they do take no for an answer when you don't want to buy.

Ephesus ruins were extraordinary in number, condition, quantity. We went on June 3 and it was quite warm, as you are in the direct sun the entire time. When you exit the town there is shade close to the parking lot. No food/drinks/vendors/machines while there, so be prepared. Loads of cats, however :). We did the Smart tour, in which we were given an iPad to guide us. If you do not know how to use an iPad, this is a bad idea. If you do know how to use an iPad, this is still a bad idea, as the sun is so bright that you cannot see the iPad screen. At times the program loaded on the iPad did not match exactly (names, titles) with the site we were seeing.

Book Ruins and Carpet Weaving Excursion with Mufasa. He is so knowledgeable and such a nice person, and we had a wonderful time learning about Ephesus.

just be aware the pestering in the towns and cities can be a nuisance, but they do rely on tourism. just be polite and say no :)

Was surprised by this port. Really did not know what to expect but luckily hired a private guide who really showed us everything the place had to offer. I was amazed by the ruins of the old library, saw the remanent of one of seven wonders of the ancient world, learned a bit about rug making, thankfully came to sense before buying one, and had some nice local food. My wife discovered how strong Turkish coffee really is, worth the cruise price right there.

Watch out for designer knock offs.
