A: It’s a bit like how long is a piece of string, as with most things quality and size matters. If you’re happy to get something smaller than a full size rug a prayer mat works well as a runner and can be rolled to fit in a large suitcase. I purchased a... n antique one (but in a small village in the interior of Turkey) 25 years ago for the equivalent of $750 Australian and use it as a hall runner. Despite constantly being walked over it hasn’t deteriorated at all.See More

A: Hi,As you step off the ship there are carpet shops in port. Also visit the Bazaar which is huge and starts just a few mins walk outside of the port. Aim to pay a third of the asking price. The haggling process is friendly without hassle (unlike 20... years ago). be polite, haggle with a smile, stick to your budget and you won't go far wrongSee More

A: I couldn’t imagine buying an expensive Turkish rug, then paying for them to ship it back home for me. What happens if they decide not to ship it or any of the several people who handle it along the way decide not to or it honestly gets lost? What re... course would you have? Zero.See More

A: No I always hand carried them back. But they can arrange shipping if needed. But I don’t know those costs sorry
Answered by leighbucksey on July 10, 2024
A: leighbucksey did that include shipping and handling?
Answered by picalo on July 9, 2024
A: It depends on the size and quality. The one we bought was pure wool and 1m wide by 3m long and was just over $1000USD which is very reasonable. We bought 1 25years ago and that was $650USD back then. (Similar size and quality) they can go as high as... €40000USD but you need to really like the one you are wanting and haggle for a price, and remember, you can always walk awaySee More

A: If you are only going ashore on day trips, you shouldn't need one. we didn't two years ago. Conditions change so it's wise to always double check.
Answered by OldHoncho on June 29, 2024
A: you do not, but I would double check with your government. https://cibtvisas.com.au/turkey-visa#:~:text=Applicants%20travelling%20to%20Turkey%20on,be%20for%20touristic%20purposes%20only.

A: I believe you do not require a visa for Turkey if you fo not disembark from the ship here.
Answered by jofoster on June 28, 2024
A: I am from Australia as well. You need to apply for your own visa. There is a site that can confirm which visas you need. Sometimes, cruisers are exempt from getting a visa due to the length of time spent on shore. Check with your booking agency.

A: Kusadasi is very walkable. when you come out of the port, there is shopping to the left and straight across from the port. There is a castle to the right and old town to the left. I would recommend not going to Sevda Tepesi, the park with an overl... ook. Many are reportably hassled there for access and photos. If you were talking Ephesus, then you would need an excursion or taxi and we'll worth the trip.See More

A: Ship docks directly in town. Walk straight out of the port and cross the road. There is shopping on the right side and a much larger shopping area on the left side. There are a bunch of fish restaurants outside the port on the left side. I prefer the... restaurants at the marina (10 minute walk on your left side). Either Tranche Steakhouse (1st restaurant at the marina) or Ketchup (last restaurant at the marina). There’s also some shopping at the marina. There’s a pharmacy (Eczane) across the road (just before the Marina if needed). For the beach I would recommend Ladies Beach (5 minute taxi ride from the port). Tons of restaurants, water sports, chairs & umbrellas to rent. If you are doing Ephesus it’s best to either book ship excursion or pre-book one of the local tour operating companies (wouldn’t recommend a taxi or public transportation).See More

A: There are many shops outside the port if you don't want to take an excursion. I suggest an excursion if you would like to see the ruins and history. it was pretty amazing. it's up to you tho.

A: As Christ Followers, we very much enjoyed our excursion to Biblical Ephesus. The history provided by our local tour guide and the opportunity to walk the streets of Ephesus will be something I will remember for the rest of my life. The tour also in... clude a visit to the Catholic Church Shrine for Mary's House, a "Biblical Lunch" at a local restaurant which was delicious, a stop at ruins of St. John's and a local silk rug factory. Amazing cultural immersion. We also took some time back at port to shop around prior to returning to the ship. Shops felt local as opposed to many Caribbean ports or Alaska where often the shops are cruise line owned. Summer 2023 was our trip.See More

A: I would recommend using a tour guide which explains the meaning
Answered by michelleb1127 on February 17, 2024
A: We did a tour. I’m really glad we did. The guide was really knowledgeable about the history and we definitely saw places we would not have gone to on our own.
Answered by MSUSue803 on February 17, 2024
A: No, you don't need to do an excursion. There are markets and a castle within easy walking distance from the port. You can go left, straight or to the right. However, as others have said, Ephesis and the House of Mary or other historical sites are w... ell worth it. Most likely, you would have time after to walk around. The only thing to watch out for is @ Sevda Tepesi at the top of the hill. lots of scammers wanting to charge for photos. I believe this was my favorite port.See More
