House of Diego Vasquez on square (1500) excellent house and period furniture. Go here instead of buying cigars/rum. If you are going to El Morro-The Fort, you can buy them there.

We did the Colonial Santiago de Cuba bus tour, which took us out to a fortress overlooking the inlet to the bay. It was a very beautiful place to go, but they do charge 5 CUCs to take pictures at the fortress. It was followed up by a journey to San Juan Hill, which was quite interesting. The tour ended with a visit to a dance studio, for an experience with the local cultural dance. Santiago de Cuba appeared to be one of more poorer cities on the itinerary, although the scenery outside the city was very beautiful.

You do not need a tour to see town. Rent a classic car taxi.

Did not go on scheduled tour. Walked to town square instead and visited museums the on board lecturer recommended. It was New Years day so very busy. We only stayed a little bit. Weather was good.

This was a most enjoyable tour of the city's highlights. We saw where Fidel is buried, visited San Juan Hill, checked out Revolution Square and Cespedes Square, and had time to get cigars and souveniers. I have to say I was surprised that we could not use ATM machines and, although we changed some currency into Cuban money, US dollars were accepted everywhere we went. But it is "cash only," no credit cards.
