Did not have great expectations for Cuba and with all the problems we had with excursions felt if we had a do-over we would have booked none through Oceania and hired a private guide once ashore, or explored on our own.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
Used out own tranportation. Got on fast. No photographer to take our picture
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Drinks expensive but friendly bar staff. Sodas, coffee, and water free. Free internet was great. Disappointed there were no photographers at ports and at dinners. There was a DVD player in our room and free DVD rental at front desk but DVD player and TV were not compatible. Informed front desk but they only smiled in response.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Played trivia and Bingo. Zumba class was small and only 1/2 hr. Salon services expensive. Wish there had been art auction. Lectures were good and were shown on TV in loops after live show was done.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Only went to one on last night. Piano player and comedian. About 50 min. Wish there was an option to watch live on TV in cabin as shows started after nine and we often had to be up early for excursions.
Children's Programs
Did not bring children
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Staff was very nice and didn't seem to hate their jobs like on some cruise ships.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Smaller ship so easier to get around but did not seem as elegant as Oceania's larger ships
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Did not seem as crammed as most. Over the Sirena lounge so was able to hear the band though the floor. Bathroom had enough shelves. Had to ask for replacement toiletries when we ran out. Mini bar always stocked. Had to as for ice every day.
Ship tip
Ate most often at Buffet, Waves, or with room service.
Booked daytime and night time excursions and they both went to the same places. Booked Hemingway's house tour for 2nd day and after the tour they took us back to the places we had seen twice the day before. One past or excursion was to see cigar factory but there was no factory only a cigar store that we spent over an hour in with 2 other tour groups trying to check out. Was told we had to book a tour in order to get off ship but that apparently is not true. We could have done our own sight-seeing or booked with a local guide. Made stops with group to bars where Mojitos and Daquiris were invented. at both stops we had to wait in cramped hot areas for complimentary drinks to be prepared. Seems like they should have had pre-prepared and given to us outside where there was more space and would take less time.
Initial tour cancelled before we boarded ship. Discovered replacement tour cancelled once we got to cabin. There were only 2 choices left for non-upcharge tours. Waited for 45 min at excursion desk to see if we could get an upgraded tour for without paying upcharge and response was no. As excursion day was New Years eve town was not very busy. Weather was nice
Did not go on scheduled tour. Walked to town square instead and visited museums the on board lecturer recommended. It was New Years day so very busy. We only stayed a little bit. Weather was good.
