Very disappointing. And depressing. Was a challenge to get around because very little signage. DO NOT BRING US $$$. Why? Because at exchange, they impose a 13% penalty. Rate is 1$ to 1 CUC. But, 100$ gets you 84CUC. If you had any other currency, no penalty. So, cigars cost me that much more :-( Everything was run down, and kept. Stray cats and dogs everywhere, along with their feces all over the streets and sidewalks. Within 2 blocks of port, it was ok .. beyond that was harsh.

You cannot bring communication devices into Cuba. The exchange rates displayed on the monitors are not what you get when you actually exchange your money. Old Havana has some very disgusting areas (defecation in stairwells, etc.), but also some very beautiful parks and other older buildings. Be cautious of people trying to lure you into dark areas or up stairs to buy Cuban cigars. We did not do an excursion since the prices were so exorbitant for what the excursion offered. We were also approached by someone who had a car and offered to show us around Cuban for 1 to 1.5 hours for $25 each, we declined. Starting in December 2017, no travelers will be allowed to go to Cuba - the US Embassy will be closed by this date.

Havana was on our 'bucket list' and we found it to be a great way to determine if we wanted to plan on coming back. While our experience was very good, we don't feel they are quite ready for the masses to descend on them. The people were extremely kind and we were amazed at the great condition of the colonial buildings in the squares of Havana. Unfortunately just blocks away are obvious poverty. In some small restaurants there was no running water, toilet paper or electricity! We did take the Colonial Havana excursion and our Cuban guide was really fascinating and knew his history. The group was a manageable size so we could hear him. We did not enjoy the time consuming stop at the cigar and rum factory. We waited in line quite a long time and once inside, we couldn't move around, we simply left and waited on the bus. It was interesting to experience that the people seem happy in spite of their situation. We will probably return. PLEASE NOTE: When you exchange money at the port we only received 10 peso bills. Nowhere we went had change and we were unable to give tips as a result. We asked everywhere we went and had no money even for the bathroom attendants.

We did the Panoramic Bus tour and the Old Havana walking tour. Enjoyed both very much. Guides spoke very good English and they were very knowledgeable.

We were informed that the administration put a ban on any ships from a U.S. port going there the day before we were to arrive. I've been told that passengers on other ships were given a 50% refund. We were given a $400 on ship credit. The itinerary they offered us instead was one day at sea and one day in Key West. That was extremely disappointing to say the least.

Convertible taxi tour on our own. Just make sure you have a guide with you that speaks English. Most excursions from ship don’t include guide and drivers have very limited English. Carriage ride was good too. Informative cultural tours.

Hello Cruisers! My party of 3 is sailing on the Majesty (RCCL) on Memorial Day and 1 of our stops is Havana. I called RCCL and the American Old Car tour is completely sold out thru the cruise line. They want me to check the excursions desk once we get on and yes that could be an option. The phone rep from RCCL states that is SAFE to book thru them (even tho they don’t have availability) but can’t guarantee (which I understand) anything if we book outside of the cruise line. Saying that, I have reserved, but not paid, a car with OldCarTours and they have sent me a confirmation email giving all the details, time, etc. Does anyone know if that is enough to show when exiting the cruise ship? Tia
