Port itself isn't much - no beaches near by. We took a taxi (for 7 of us $15 each round trip) to Dreams Resort for a resort day ($65 each). It was great!

We were going to do the $59 pp excursion to Altos de Chavon. We were talking to our favourite crew member that told us not to do the excursion but instead walk to the bus terminal where the excursions leave from. On the right side is the ticket booth where you can buy return tickets to shopping, Altos de Chavon or both. The $7 return ticket to Altos de Chavon is what we bought and it was one of the best excursions we have ever gone on. The views were fantastic and it feels like you have traveled to an old town in Italy. The amphtheater is impressive and still in use for concerts. It has several shopping boutiques and a little general store hidden away so that it does not spoil the old world feel.

It was raining but we took a taxi around La Romana & Casa de Campo. The taxi driver Manny was exceptional & very informative. He then took us to a restaurant where we ate amazing domincan food! That shrimp rice was out of this world.

We did the Saint Island excursion with Seavis Tours and had a great time! Had a fun 25 minute ride in the speedboat to get to the island. There we had a buffet lunch and lots of rum punch. After that we rode by the mangroves and then to a large sandbar to view starfish. Very friendly staff and we took some fun pics.

Through a Facebook group, met a couple and we split a cab to Dreams La Romana Resort for a day pass. Had a WONDERFUL day! We swam at the pool and beach, ate a lovely lunch and drank, all included.

if the cruise ship is refunding your port charges for this stop prior to you leaving miami, and the cruise director tells you for 2 days that there is nothing in the port area such as shopping baubles, beads, and BS and for 2 days tells you the area surrounding the port is is so many words NOT SAFE... then why the hell did carnival decide this was a good port to visit???

Much better than anticipated. haven't been to the Dominican Republic several times we know how the area can be but we had never been at La Romana. We visited the Altos del Chavon, and enjoying the views and the charming little "town". After that we had a seafood lunch in downtown at Marinelly, and it was very good! The town itself can be intimidating for those who haven't been to the DR before.

unless your doing a shore excursion it's a waste of time.

Didn’t like it. The Island was beautiful but not safe. Book your excursion with Cruise ship do not go with private and never ever by yourself. I will surely never back on this Island.
