Beautiful compound with golf courses and awesome views. Some said it’s “just a golf club” but the views are what make it beautiful. I guess the train ride “tour” might be fit better for some. Then again, that’s “just a train ride”. Had a great time nonetheless.

The free tour organized by Celebrity Cruises to Casa De Campo was not at all enjoyable. We went by shuttle bus to Casa De Campo where we saw a nice reproduction of a 17th century village (which was really a facade for highly overpriced retail stores). We were done in about 45 minutes but had to wait almost an hour in the heat (with 70 other cruise guest) for the shuttle buses back. No cabs were available for the return journey (I would have willingly paid my way back to the ship or to La Romana, the nearby town rather than be trapped ), so that I and my family wasted a lot of time in this activity. We really felt that there was no rush to get the passengers back until the last minutes when about 6 shuttle buses turned up around the same time to wisk everyone back. Celebrity Cruises needs to pay close attention to this. Cruise passengers who spend a lot of money on a cruise should not be treated this way!

Stay on the ship. Very third world. Not safe to eat or drink off the ship. We received warnings about pick-pockets and did not fell safe after dark.

Punta Cana is not too far out. For the golfers: Casa de Campo. Altos de Chavon tour = a must see. There is not to much to see in town La Romana.

Best area to go to for shopping and for photo oportunities is Altos de Chevon, a re-creation of a medieval Mediterranean Village.

The only thing we were able to do is an excursion to Saimona Island, great choice!!!!! A bit pricey but well worth it.

Very friendly, but too dirty. Trash everywhere. Colonial part of Santo Domingo not well kept.

In four words, stay on the ship! We were planning to go to shops on land and a beach. Our head waiter informed us the night before that there is absolutely nothing to do there unless you do a tour. So we booked one that night. Our tour was a visit to a church that was built in England and reconstructed in Samana, DR; a whale museum; a gift shop; and a village that was described as a former fishing village that now had European-style shopping and restaurants. We got on the bus (a nice tour bus) and began. Our first stop was the church...we didn't get off the bus. Instead the guide pointed out the window, talked for 5 minutes, and off we went. The whale museum was amusing. The locals found a whale carcass on the beach, dragged it ashore, build a cinderblock building around it, partially reassembled to skeleton, hung some posters, and dubbed it a museum. The gift shop had some local crafts, and some imported. There were about 7 shops in the village, and the restaurants were bad
