we did the beach break, they pack you into a large van. The beach is beautiful and the snorkeling was very good, but there were tons of jelly fish. Very glad we had our skins. There were guards (we tipped ours, they are very helpful) to watch your stuff, plenty of wait staff for very reasonably priced drinks and a buffet lunch came with the price. The problem was that we were all told that starting at noon the bus would go back every 30 minutes, in reality, they wait until they have enough people for it to be full. You may wait an hour or more.

Mahogany bay is a beautiful place to just hang out and relax. The water is nice and we rented a clam shell and just baked under the sun. Met many fellow shipmates and had a great time.

Probably my favorite port I’ve been to, Roatán itself is beautiful. The port is under construction to accommodate more ships, but once you’re off the pier the port is beautiful, with multiple shops and bars. The sights you can see from your ship are fantastic, with mountains rising way up into the sky not too far from the port, and beautiful homes on the side of and on top of the mountains. If you do an excursion, you get to drive through a lot of towns and you can see that they’re really trying to build Roatán up into a top tier tourist destination. Any excursion booked with Anthony’s Key Resort, or if you’re staying there not on a cruise, is guaranteed to be wonderful and the scenery can’t be beat.

Again been before and have very low expectations. As we had missed Costa Rica we were a little stir crazy so wanted to go for a walk, which we did. One of the locals politely pushed themselves onto us a a walking tour guide. We didn’t really want it and initially wondered how we might lose him, but actually after 10 mins we really warmed to the guy. We stuck with him and after maybe an hour’s wander around Coxen’s hole we circled back to the port. CH is quite a poor place in reality and seems quite unfriendly our “guide” did peel back the myth and showed us a different side to the town.

Took a civilian tour around the island. Went to the monkey, sloth and parrot sanctuary was great. Then went to a nice beach for 1 1/2 hours. Was $30 apiece and thru Bodden Tours. Was well worth it.

Our original excursion to the iguana farm and a brief drive was canceled, so we chose to see and hold the monkeys and macaws. It was fun, and I'm glad I experienced it, but there was a lot of walking! For those who have mobility issues (which my husband does) this is not the best choice.

When in Roatan, we booked the Maya Key Beach day with lunch. I was disappointed with it. I gave it three stars, mostly for its lush beauty, but the beach wasn't the greatest, and the pool was very dirty. I was not impressed with the lunch that was served. I thought it was pretty paltry. But we enjoyed seeing all the animals they have their in the wildlife preserve, and sitting on any beach relaxing is always a good thing! One word of advice: it is very lush, and Honduras is known to have Zika Virus. I went prepared with a can of Deep Woods Off, and sprayed us liberally. There was one woman that when we were getting back on ship, was covered in misquito bites! So glad I brought my Off!
