We were restricted to the local port area, unless you booked a tour on board the ship or shore side. There were several local merchants selling a variety of merchandise in the shopping area within the port area at the end of the pier.

This port is only good if you plan for an excursion. The shopping is dismal at best, and we were hassled by several people as we walked through the stalls. One guy followed us for almost ten minutes, trying to get us to take a taxi ride with him. There are no beaches within walking distance that we learned of. I wish the excursions were more affordable, because the interior of the island looked interesting once we got back on board and could see it.

Due to the negative comments of previous guests regarding Dominica, we were not sure what to expect here. We booked River Tubing & Jaco Falls through Carnival. Expect a long and windy bus ride through the rain forest to get to the river and back. Also expect to have the best time of your life river tubing. This was by far the best excursion we did. Jaco Falls was gorgeous as well. We wanted to walk around at port but felt intimidated by the locals. This is a good island to book an active adventure that doesn't involve the beach.

The port is very dirty, fly infested with not much to do unless you go on an excursion.
