Beautiful beautiful island but be aware this is more so like Jamaica on the Dutch side where people are constantly coming up to you the minute you get off the ferry boat for rentals. Then when you rent chairs and umbrellas on the beach vendors are constantly coming up to your chairs trying to get you to pay for goods or services. That was a little much for us so next time we will book a more private excursion.

The Great Bay Beach excursion was added as an option. We took it but $39 was not worth it per person. This beach is immediately across bay from where ship docks on the Atlantic side. If you want to visit, take a water taxi to this beach for $7 round trip--easy to navigate ferry. You can then check out beach and decide if you want to rent a chair and umbrella or just check out the shops. Our excursion included "free wifi" which came from a bar and was very spotty. Beach was crowded and very loud with a DJ set up right next to chairs. Alternative, you can take a taxi to Maho beach (if you have 8 people, its $16 each round trip) to see the planes fly right overhead, or take a taxi to Orient beach or for a real "hidden treasure" take a taxi to Mullet Bay beach. Be careful to arrange return transport if you go off on your own, the cruise ship will not wait if you do not return on time and are not on a cruise authorized excursion. There is no Uber on the island
