We rented a Jeep at coastal car rentals for $50 for the whole day. Had a great day exploring on our own. Coastal is very professional. Roads are very rough so if you do it make sure your up for the bumps and steep hills. Also the jeeps are manual transmission- so make sure you can drive stick or rent one of their cars. Avoid Lulus near Marigot. They microwaved the fish before serving it-- very tough and over cooked.

St. Martin is the best island in the Caribbean!!! The Dutch side is very oriented to shoppers and the new (3 yrs old) board walk in Phillipsburg makes this a great destination. The beach is right there and bordered by great restaurants and outstanding shopping. The French side is my favorite as it is very different from the Cruise Ports. Marigot is very picturesque, continental, and authentic. Orient Beach is a great place to relax. For the more adventurous, Pinel Island is a wonderful escape but takes more time to reach. And if you can stay late into the evening, don't miss the restaurants of Grande Casse!

What a waste of time, Oh my gosh it was the dirtiest nastiest place I've ever been. They took us to a "shopping" place that was just junk and then drove us all over the French side and the Dutch side and good lord I couldnt believe it. The roads were terrible and the "nice part" wasnt nice at all. Dumpy looking casino's, rough sea's at the beach part and even the homes with a view didnt keep their yards up. I will never return to this island it was awful.

St. Maarten is awesome. We did Bernard's Tour ($45 each), which took us ALL over the island and saw all the great things the island offers. It was a great day
