The island itself is beautiful, but they are still extremely devastated by the hurricane!

We did the Maho Beach Airplane experience which was very neat. HOWEVER there was no place to shower or clean off sand when leaving the beach. AND the beach isn't young kid friendly, very powerful tides thanks to a steep beach. It was a lot of fun, but young kids need hand holding... at least they did when we were there. I was knocked of my feet several times and I'm 6' tall and 240 lbs!

This is pre-hurricane, but found the town nice, walked and poked around the local shops.

We've visited St. Maarten several times in the past and have done the America's Cup racing and Kayak excursions before, so we just went into to town to shop. They are still recovering from the hurricane so a lot of the shops are still closed. Once you run the guantlet of islanders trying to sell you tours, taxi rides etc. once you disembark from the water taxi, the town is not too bad to walk around in.

We did a bus tour of both the Dutch side and the French side. It was good to see the sights and we stopped off twice and were able to walk around both stops for 30 minutes. The first stop was fun. Walked around the flea markets and bay, then stopped at a bakery. The second stop was less lively. It was on a busy street with mot much to do. We walked to a local bar, had to get a drink to go and got back on the bus while everyone else went to an ice cream place. Parts of St Maarten were gorgeous while most of it was devastatingly damaged from the hurricane that happened two years ago. A lot of ship wrecks and most houses still had no roofs or walls. It was very sad to see.
