To really enjoy this island you should get one of the local taxis to give you a tour. The island is very poor and primitive.

This was my favorite place. We did the Cayo Levantado beach getaway. It was a private beach with a bar and a grill. the water was great and we a got super tan.

We went on a tour and to a beach by private taxi and received a wonderful massage for only $10 per person. There were a lot of vendors on the beach, however. We also hiked to a very pretty waterfall, and again, there were many vendors on the way up the mountain.

We did the mangroves kayak trip. It was absolutely wonderful. You could have done the tour with an additional beach stop, we did not do it, however the beach was really nice and we wish we had. Other people in our party did not do a planned excursion and they said there is really nothing to do at this port, so they would recommend picking an excursion through the ship.

They changed our port. We didn't go to Samana we went to Santa Domingo instead. I have friends in Samana an wanted to see them. I was very disappointed. Santa Domingo was not a good port.
