Kingston is the island's commercial hub, chief port, and largest city, founded in 1693 on one of the Caribbean's best-protected harbors. The early capital of Port Royal, Kingston replaced Spanish Town as Jamaica's capital in 1872. This is where Bob Marley Got his start. Tourism, oil refining, and food processing are major industries. The city's botanical gardens are famous for their beauty.
