It is one of the cleanest, friendly and beautiful cities we have visited. The mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb were as beautiful as the ones we’ve seen in Switzerland and Alaska! It is rather easy to navigate the city, but they have plenty of local transportation.

Debarkation: Smooth to pick bags up and get thru Customs, but if you’re not with a cruise excursion at that point you truly are on your own. Had to ask multiple times the best way to get out of Canada Place (dragging all our bags - no porters to be found). One spot had a single elevator and a line 200 people long. We just kept walking and walking and walking - past the buses and up a long difficult ramp to the street. Stayed at Fairmont Waterfront across the street. Very nice hotel with good people. Loved Vivian on the restaurant wait staff. “Hop on Hop off” bus a good way to see town - can buy tickets from the Fairmont concierge. Tickets are good for two days (get the company that the concierge recommends - there are two HOHO operations—- one just uses old school buses). BEWARE: there are TONS of traffic lights in Vancouver. By the end of our tour we were queasy from all the starting and stopping, so plan to get off every 3 or 4 stops maybe. IIRC there are 14 stops total for the full circuit (they only go one direction). Stanley Park is beautiful- I wish we’d had more time to visit. We thought the Aquarium was not as good as we were led to believe and probably a bit overpriced. If you like to see lots of different versions of Jellyfish, this is the place for you. Every time you turn around there’s another Jellyfish display. Vancouver Airport is not modern - though there is A LOT of construction underway. Do yourself a favor, find a porter and let him/her guide you thru check in and into the US Customs area - you’ll skip some lines and save time. Give him $20 US tip and save yourself a major headache. Even with that, you DO need to arrive at least 2 hours before boarding to fly back to the US. Even with Global Entry it took us perhaps 90-100 minutes from Taxi to Gate on a Tuesday. The Priority Pass Lounge here for US Departures is small with very, very limited offerings. Certainly not worth a day pass price. We have a yearly pass and even with that we left after 20 minutes and were slightly more comfortable just waiting at the gate. Probably best to just find a restaurant to sit at to kill time in YVR. The people of Vancouver who we met were all very friendly and welcoming. The Tourists - eh, not so much. Maybe cruise hangovers??

Post cruise we spent two extra days in Vancouver. We travelled all around the city on the Hop On/Hop Off bus. This is definitely a city we would visit again!

We were not prepared for Vancouver. It is the nicest, cleanest and friendliest cities we have ever been in and we are not city type people. We highly recommend the "Hop-on/Hop-off" bus tour service. It takes you all over the city on a narrated tour that you can jump off and back on anytime you like. Also recommend the Best Western Hotel on Granville St. Nice rooms, great service, lots of restaurants in the area and a Hop-on/Hop-off stop right in front of the hotel.

Beautiful city. Did you know the newer high-rise glass buildings are required to have either blue or green glass to reflect the city's sea/sky/mountain environment? Take the Landsea bus tour to get that type of local insight. Pre-arranged a post tour excursion with them. Just walk outside the terminal toward the street and you will see them waiting for you. Bus carries about 30. They will load and lock up your bags and deliver you to your hotel or transportation to the airport after 4 hour tour. It was perfect for us as we couldn't get into the hotel until 3 pm anyway!
