If you go to Juneau, don't go on an excursion that "includes" the glacier park. Go to the glacier park. There is a beautiful "hike" (more like a stroll but hike sounds more impressive) to a huge roaring waterfall right next to the Mendenhall Glacier. If you're with a tour, you will not have time to do this and it's magnificent. We would have had time to do a beer tasting and/or a tram to Mount Roberts, but chose to explore the town instead. We tasted some of the local beer and gave our blessing. The old time saloon was fun and king crab legs for the second straight day, what's not to like?

Bonus: Avis car rental within walking distance of dock, so we rented two cars and made our way around the island - out to Mendenhall Glacier and spending as much time as we wanted, back into out, and north again. The car rental really worked out well for us. Also enjoyed the Northern Lights leaving Juneau for Skagway at night.

Really enjoyed this very walkable downtown area. Found really yummy fresh fish and chips at the Flight Deck at the Hangar on the Wharf. Went on a wonderful Whale watching boat trip and then went to Mendenhall Glacier which we thought was very beautiful.

Great little town to walk! But, the highlight of Juneau, for me, was to take the tram all the way to the top of Mount Robert and from there do the Alpine Loop Trail! Great views! And the trail takes only about 20 min and not too difficult. It was a bit foggy and light rain that day, but happy I did it.
