We had a whale watching tour and the guys were really nice. Didn't see as much whales as past cruises but it was still nice. I think the morning is more active then afternoon for seeing more whales.

This was my favorite port of call. We went to Mendenhall Glacier, Mendenhall Gardens, and a salmon hatchery. The only part I would do again is the Glacier. The Gardens were pretty, but not worth the time spent there and Steve who developed the Gardens must be some kind of god because they couldn't stop talking about him. The hatchery was kinda boring. Back to the glacier, YOU NEED TO TAKE A TOWEL TO DRY YOUR FEET OFF or wear tall rain boots. You can walk over to the waterfall and along the sandy area. I really recommend doing this. Especially if you're like me and didn't want to pay $300 a person to fly and land on the glacier. You will get some amazing pictures!

At our first stop, Juneau, we did the Sled Dog Discovery and Musher's Camp excursion (through Norwegian), which took us out to a remote location via shuttle and we got to meet the sled dogs, learn about the Iditarod, cuddle with 15 day old puppies, and go on a "sled" ride pulled by about 15 of the dogs. The sled ride (they pulled a wheeled vehicle) was the best part! I felt it was overpriced for what we got to experience, and I wish we'd had more time with the puppies (it was less than 5 minutes). But, my husband absolutely LOVED it, so because of that (and it being a once-in-a-lifetime thing) it was worth it. After the excursion we still had time to kill, so we stopped in at the Red Dog Saloon and signed our names on the wall. (Bring a black sharpie!) Then we took a taxi out to Mendenhall Glacier National Park/Tongass National Forest. It cost $35 there and $20 back (we shared with other people going back). We took a hike there and got right up close to a waterfall, and we had a great shot of the glacier. I actually enjoyed that more than the dog sledding!
