There wasn't much to see in the town near the ship--it's best to book an excursion, or if you want to stay close, plan a trip up the Roberts Tramway or to Mendenhall Glacier.

Mendenhall Glacier was amazing to get close to. Also the Mt. Roberts tramway was fun, with nice easy hikes and a good museum at the top.

Loved Juneau! Had that small town feel even though it's the capital. We went on a whale watching tour and saw a lot of whales including a baby jumping out of the water more than 20x. Even the guides were stunned as this type of behavior is very rare to see and we got extremely lucky. It was breathtaking!

We did a private Whale Watching excursion with Harv & Marv's - worth EVERY single penny! Our guide Grant was fantastic, the boat was fabulous AND we saw so many whales and seals. In fact, one of the baby whales actually came over to our boat and played around going under and around our boat, splashing us, coming up to the side - it was UNFORGETTABLE!

Bald eagles are everywhere here. Did combination tour through NCL; whale watch/Mendenhall glacier visit. Our bus driver was informative and fun. We were able to hike the roundtrip at the glacier to nugget falls and back with time to stop for pictures and make it to the visitors center with a little time to spare. The whale watching boat was comfortable and the guides were helpful and knowledgeable. We saw 3 humpbacks up close and a group of sea lions. There was a complimentary snack onboard but more substantial food for purchase. Definitely got what we paid for.
