Pretty deceitful, Hoonah is like 10 miles away from Icy Strait Point. Icy Strait Point is a cruise-affiliated tourist trap corporation that deprived the native village (Hoonah) off any tourism at all. Shame on you, Icy Strait Point Corporation.

Went on a Bear Search - did not see any bears because the salmon were late in running due to drought but the tour guide was awesome, and shared a lot about everyday Alaskan life and we did berry picking which was quite fun! Ended up being one of my son's favorite ports!

The local native American tribe has constrcted a large cultural center with interesting exhibits, a cannery tour, shopping including a general store, an eating place, a nature trail and the locals are so very hospitable. Actually this is one port where you needn't spend a dollar to enjoy it all. (you probably will, though) the actual town is about a mile and a quarter walk or you can use a shuttle for $5.00 round trip. We walked into the town where there is really not much to see; but along the way we took some nice photos of waterfalls, etc. and we saw whales not too far off shore! This was a surprisingly good fun and educational stop and it was great to get away from the myriad jewelry stores which, for some reason are in every port we visited.

This was our first time to Icy Strait Point. Walking along the shore we saw whales just off shore. Our time was limited because we had to leave early due to an approaching storm. We enjoyed our time here and are looking forward to going back in the future.

Absolutely LOVED the zip line. Soaring high above the pines we literally flew with two eagles. Again we were fortunate to have a wild life encounter on our excursion - this time up close to a young brown bear that walked right in front of our ATVs. This port was the best of the trip!

This was a very small little town, the port was really beautiful. I would recommend the Whale Watching excursion. Our guide took us to a spot where we saw 6-9 whales. They came so close to our boat we could almost touch them......this was a WOW experience. We got some fabulous photos and video.
