Problems with gangplanks at low tide caused delays getting out. Security guy was new to the ship and barked like he was the captain but we eventually made enough noise that he allowed us to step up on to the alternate gangplank and then down the slope to the pier. The tide was higher on return so the main gangplank was the only one in use but it was still steeper than usual. More planning needed here. The kayak excursion was great.

Haines is a small port the village is quite small but it does have some hidden gems "Roys Ramblings" a small shop offers quite an ecclectic collection of Alaskan items as well as memoribilia. The tour to Steve Kroschel's place is one you shouldn't miss if you want to get a real close look at Alsakan wild life.

Like others said, if you don’t book an excursion there isn’t much to do/see here compared to other ports. Must admit it was raining and cold when we stopped so we didn’t venture too far from the immediate dock area. I wish I would have researched more in advance and booked an excursion! Was hoping to take the fast ferry to Skagway but the schedules didn’t match up. Maybe next time!

Gorgeous location, but not many options without taking the $75 RT fast ferry to Skagway. We walked around town, checked out the IGA grocery store pricing and got the kids ice cream before letting them run and play on hiking trails and playgrounds. Spotted several bald eagles.

Authentic. We took the ferry to Skagway and did the white pass and Yukon rr excursion. Was work getting up at 5am. Last year we docked at Skagway and did the eagle ready float. It is worth doing. We also did the brothel tour. It was good but a bit expensive.
