Review summary

The Statendam although one of the older ships in the line, is very well appointed. The service is exceptional as it is on all of Holland America's Ships. This line is impeccable! The food is high end gourmet prepared to perfection. The staff is always friendly and they go out of their way to make sure your every need is met. Entertainment on board is terrific and the cruise director makes sure there are plenty of Ship board activities to take advantage of if you want to be busy. This trip was a great value for the money and a memorable trip.

Ports of call

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
A sea port village that now contains too many jewelery shops. It is becoming as busy with shopping for jewelery as NYC 5th Avenue. I go on vacation to see different locales and to get the flavor of the area and these shops are taking away from the experience. There should be more shops exhibiting local artists creations. Creek Street is for me the main attraction in this village it is a historic area running along a creek wher the sidewalks are a wooden board walk. This was the former "Red Light District" of the town.
Don't Miss: Creek street

Haines, Alaska

Haines is a small port the village is quite small but it does have some hidden gems "Roys Ramblings" a small shop offers quite an ecclectic collection of Alaskan items as well as memoribilia. The tour to Steve Kroschel's place is one you shouldn't miss if you want to get a real close look at Alsakan wild life.
Don't Miss: Steve Kroschels Wild life preserve

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
The capitol of Alaska and a busy seaport. Lots of shops. a good selection of optional tours
Don't Miss: the helicopter trip to walk on the Glacier
