Norwegian Epic

December 2013 - 7 Night Eastern Caribbean (Miami roundtrip) Cruise on Norwegian Epic

Absolutely despised the Norwegian Epic. The Norwegian Epic was sadly, my first cruise with Norwegian Cruise Lines. So sadly, I was not given a very good impression of the brand. While I will give the ship two stars for being very clean and well kept. This was not the ship for me. This ship reminded me of a floating shopping mall. It has a massive casino that takes up two decks mid ship. And has a huge “Haven” suite area that is segregated from everyone else on the ship. So if you don’t buy into that you’ll never even get to see that portion of the ship. I don’t like the idea of having part of the ship segregated to certain people only in certain rooms. If I pay money to go on a ship, I wanna see it all. Even if I don’t get all the amenities of a huge Haven suite. I’d still like to SEE the common areas. Personally I prefer Carnival and it’s ships. Had a great time on other ships like Carnival Vista and Carnival Breeze.

Carnival Breeze

December 2012 - 8 Night Eastern Caribbean (Miami roundtrip) Cruise on Carnival Breeze

Cruised on the Breeze twice and loved it both times! The Carnival Breeze is a very up to date, fun, eventful, entertaining, clean, perfect ship. I sailed in 2012 and repeated in 2014. Both times I had the same awesome experience. The Breeze was my first introduction to Carnival Cruise Lines and since then I have been loyal to Carnival. Beautiful ship boasting a fantastic crew.

Monarch of the Seas

December 2011 - 4 Night Bahamas (Port Canaveral roundtrip) Cruise on Monarch of the Seas

Cruised on Monarch in 2011 and did not have such a pleasant time. The ship was much smaller than what I was used to, it was only my second cruise and I had been on the Freedom of the Seas so it was a huge downgrade. It was very rocky throughout the cruise and we only made 1/2 of our ports because of it. I’m sure many people had better and different experience with this ship and I hope they did. Personally I prefer carnival and I wish I had chosen something like the Carnival Sensation instead.

Freedom of the Seas

December 2010 - 7 Night Eastern Caribbean (Port Canaveral roundtrip) Cruise on Freedom of the Seas

Ship: 10/10 Service: 10/10 Food: 10/10 Ports of Call: 10/10 The Freedom of the Seas was a beautiful ship and it was a great first cruise. It was also a great way to jump into Royal Caribbean for the first time. Would recommend this ship to a new cruiser.

Cruise tips

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

Cruised here in 2012 when it was not very developed. Walked off the ship and right back on because the downtown area was a very long walk. From what I have seen the port had developed a lot and changed over the years so my review may not even be relevant anymore. But in my experience if you don’t have an excursion don’t bother getting off the ship.

St. John's, Antigua

Antigua is a beautiful island. I visited with Carnival Cruise Lines on the Breeze in 2012. We went on an excursion with only 8 or so other people to a beach we had all to ourselves. The locals and people around the port were all very tourist friendly. They are happy to have you. Felt very welcomed in Antigua. I would love to come back but it’s hard to find a Carnival cruise that goes here anymore.

Nassau, Bahamas

Nassau, a great port for a first time cruiser, or even a veteran cruiser. Not many things to see or do here in Nassau but it can be pretty cheap if you play your cards right. Walk to the Junkanoo beach and have a good time. Or spend time in señor frogs to eat chicken fingers, drink, and get absolutely shit face drunk for the low cost of $400 per person. Nassau has something for everyone. But could be better. Would definitely go back, but would definitely rather be somewhere else in the Caribbean or Bahamas.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

St. Maarten is a great port of call. Many different things to do and see. My first time there (Freedom of the Seas, 2010) I went on a Jeep tour around the island and it was very scenic. Second time (Norwegian Epic, 2013) we went on a dolphin discovery excursion on the island of Anguilla which is very close to St. Maarten and can be reached by ferry. I hope to soon see the Princess Juliana airport beach there as well.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

St. Thomas is my #1 favorite port anywhere in the Caribbean. I’ve been on 11 cruises and it remains my favorite. Magen’s bay is a must see for anyone visiting the island.

Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island)

Definitely not a big fan of Coco-Cay. The only reason for that is because it’s a tender port. You’re never for sure going to a tender port due to weather conditions. Because of that, I have missed Coco Cay twice. On two different cruises.
