Cruise tips
Tortola, British Virgin Islands
Cruised here in 2012 when it was not very developed. Walked off the ship and right back on because the downtown area was a very long walk. From what I have seen the port had developed a lot and changed over the years so my review may not even be relevant anymore. But in my experience if you don’t have an excursion don’t bother getting off the ship.
Antigua is a beautiful island. I visited with Carnival Cruise Lines on the Breeze in 2012. We went on an excursion with only 8 or so other people to a beach we had all to ourselves. The locals and people around the port were all very tourist friendly. They are happy to have you. Felt very welcomed in Antigua. I would love to come back but it’s hard to find a Carnival cruise that goes here anymore.
Nassau, a great port for a first time cruiser, or even a veteran cruiser. Not many things to see or do here in Nassau but it can be pretty cheap if you play your cards right. Walk to the Junkanoo beach and have a good time. Or spend time in señor frogs to eat chicken fingers, drink, and get absolutely shit face drunk for the low cost of $400 per person. Nassau has something for everyone. But could be better. Would definitely go back, but would definitely rather be somewhere else in the Caribbean or Bahamas.
St. Maarten is a great port of call. Many different things to do and see. My first time there (Freedom of the Seas, 2010) I went on a Jeep tour around the island and it was very scenic. Second time (Norwegian Epic, 2013) we went on a dolphin discovery excursion on the island of Anguilla which is very close to St. Maarten and can be reached by ferry. I hope to soon see the Princess Juliana airport beach there as well.
St. Thomas is my #1 favorite port anywhere in the Caribbean. I’ve been on 11 cruises and it remains my favorite. Magen’s bay is a must see for anyone visiting the island.
Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island)
Definitely not a big fan of Coco-Cay. The only reason for that is because it’s a tender port. You’re never for sure going to a tender port due to weather conditions. Because of that, I have missed Coco Cay twice. On two different cruises.
