Thankyou and Goodbye

I joined Cruiseline 4 months ago and this will be my 309th post and last. At the time of joining, I was not aware that the control of the web site and virtually every member was American based. Following my first post, I was pleased to receive welcoming comments from CruisinTim, Kennicott CruisingCM , BAK1061 and Jusme.

Initial posts and replies were friendly, but it does appear that Americans and Canadians have a totally different concept of life to English people and simply do not understand the English culture.

Recent comments from the above 5 posters have been decidedly personal towards me and I was not impressed when Kennicott accused me of being a troll.

I did join hoping to pick up useful tips on cruising, but it seems to me that the more cruises each person takes makes them more snobby. Comments to the extent of “if you have only cruised twice”, were certainly not appreciated. To go on a cruise with a ship full of snobs in their penguin suits is not our idea of fun and the same feeling was felt on this web site when I discussed Freestyle cruising.

Very little information is actually gleaned from the posts with a lot of posts from Glomorrone bordering on the fact that she seemed to have nothing better to do.

So no doubt the above mentioned will be pleased at my decision not to make any further posts and you may make as many comments as you like as there will be no

Hopefully nobody will play at babyhouse and delete this post for inappropriate behaviour and so it is Thankyou and Goodbye

He is out there lurking and reading these posts. He's just waiting for the right time to come back. I know he's out there, I can smell the bangers and Guiness.

Let's closeout this thread and move on, please. Thanks!

I've had my say and had not planned any further discussion on this thread. For me, I had to get a few things out of my system and I did. As you can see, I've been posting on many other topics since returning from my PC cruises early yesterday morning. Life goes on and so will Cruiseline.com Happy

I feel that since ewoodspark has kept to his word of not returning to the site (seeing to how he has not responded to any reply posts), we should stop beating ourselves up about how he felt. We keep posting responses to a past member that will go unread whilst trying to explain ourselves for how WE felt in response to his obvious misunderstood feelings. The website has a purpose and it is a purpose many can extract valuable information. By constantly going back and forth on this topic for months while our posts go unnoticed by the OP is futile. I vote we end this now and move on to bigger and better cruise related things...anyone else..... ?

Kennicott - it wasn't your misunderstanding, I'd be sure of that. I have friends and professional colleagues throughout England, Canada, and Australia. I've traveled throughout those and other countries, spoke at professional education events, and toured many health care facilities. In all of that, I've not experienced any thing that rose to this level of misunderstanding simply because I was from the U.S. and the foreigner in these situations. All I can add is that I wanted to be understood and to understand. I found a way to common ground with mutual respect and patience. I did not get my panties in a knot when a colloquialism wasn't immediately clear to me. Instead of throwing down "as for XYZ... I don't understand... must be a Canadianism or an Britism or an Aussism" and waiting for someone to spoon feed the explanation to me, I either looked it up on the web or asked "oh, does XYZ mean ABC?" I put an effort into understanding and relationship building rather than whine about being an outsider.

Sorry... I can't abide that sort of passive aggression.

Yes, it was me who espoused the troll remark. If I recall, at the time and under the comment circumstances right then, it was about the kindest refrain I could muster. Actually, it was an indirect reference not a direct one as he suggests, but I admit it was the same thing I accused him of doing sometime before. At least I'm not hiding behind the rationalization that I didn't make a personal attack.

For a bit, I was concerned that misunderstandings and perhaps my own obstinate character could be responsible for a lot of the harsh exchanges that took place leading up to his adieu. That was, I was concerned up until I read this: "Very little information is actually gleaned from the posts with a lot of posts from Glomorrone bordering on the fact that she seemed to have nothing better to do."

Yep... that was my post. I was the one who flagged the response. I acknowledged that I did it as well. I do the same thing regardless of who posts. As you noted, no help offered, not on topic, and harshly toned. ~shrug~

This made me laugh... hard. I had the same thought about English reserve and persistence because as we know, "only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noonday sun" (R. Kipling)

[quote]"You were the one removed from another cruise site for the very thing you did here, call people names, insult them and argue with the moderators. Months ago when you called people snobs and said they think they are better then everyone else because they like to dress for formal nights I told you "it is not what you say but how you say it" you did not take the hint then and still do not see that. I always find it interesting that the one that starts calling names is the one upset when they get told they do not play nice with others."

Well, when someone calls me out, it tends to get my attention. I guess I'm flattered to be in such great company with others mentioned so that is all I have to say about that.

For the record, the point that I was going to make was previously offered. I remember greeting you on arrival and specifically remember your complaints about the other cruise site that you left (voluntarily or otherwise). It really does seem like your history has repeated itself here so consider a bit of self-examination before pointing the flame thrower and beating a hasty retreat. Is it really other people doing you wrong or perhaps maybe could it be that you just can't play nice in the sandbox? (no answer necessary).

I'm at a loss as to what did glomarrone ever did to be insulted. ~shrug~

In any event, best wishes to you and your next cruise forum. Maybe there is one based in England that would be better suited for you.
