Princess Kerfluffle

We had booked a 10 day Partial Panama Canal from FLL on the Crown Princess for 11/16. After spending several hours on their Medallion App trying to get addresses adjusted, dining times booked, etc, a few days ago I was notified by my TA that the cruise had been cancelled and rebooked on the Emerald Princess. Both ships are virtually the same, so I am not really sure why they felt they needed to do this, but OK.

This evening, I checked the Princess site and the Upcoming Cruises had been updated - even the cabin was the same (hand-picked for personal reasons -- Thanks, Amy for any sweat you poured into this to make sure it happened Big Smile ) but my entire check-in had been erased - I had to start over.

To start, on the app, it appeared to show that I was traveling solo - Not sure my wife would approve. I had to go to Princess.com to double check the booking there, which appeared correct. Then went back to the app and spent 30 minutes trying to diagnose the problem. Not sure why or how, but after several tries, my wife appeared back on the app. After doing the check-in procedures for both of us, I got to the Medallion order page. I again corrected the address, ordered the medallions, and finalized the order. That is when I noticed that the address change had not taken and they were to be mailed to my old address. I quickly cancelled the order, and attempted to change my address. After several tries (about 30 minutes) I finally got the address change saved and re-ordered the medallions.I was about to finalize the order and noticed I had fat-fingered my street address and had the medallions being delivered across the street. (I don't mind my neighbors too much, but I am not giving them my cruise!). Another half-hour of trying to correct the address and finally got it to save. Finally, after several hours of working through the horrible app, I am back to where I was a few days ago and am going on a cruise!!!

(Note that as bad as the Princess app is, it is still better than the Celebrity site!)

This is my second medallion cruise. Normally, (as Lazyboy points out) most of the personal info is retained once you input it for the first medallion cruise. On my last cruise, all I had yo do was get out of the taxi, go through security and walk onto the ship (medallion was scanned a couple of times, but there was no hold-up. Then again, I was also about an hour late past final boarding (Thanks American Airlines!). Due to Princess having booked the flight, (as well as a lot of sweat equity from my travel agent), the ship waited for me.)

Despite my rant above, I really do like the medallion - I just wish that it interacted more (or even at all) with the website.

When it works, Medallion can be easy. We have a December coming up and they kept the passport and boarding picture info from 2019, I still had to go back and start over once when it hung up and I had to restart. Hmmm...at least I HOPE that is why I was not asked to redo the passport data.....

We haven’t had a chance to sail on Princess since all the ships became medallion class! I may need some hand holding when we do!Big Smile

Yankee is correct - just a bit of attempted humorous venting. CruiseQueen - the site (as well as the app) generally go partially down over the weekend for maintenance. Since I was trying to do this on Friday night, this is most likely the case. OGW - I hope you are correct. The cruise isn't until mid-november, so hopefully there is enough time to take care of any remaining glitches (such as not being able to find my current or expired passports or birth certificateCrying. I was able to get the BC replaced (only took a couple of days with expedited service between Mass and South Texas) and have re-applied for the passport (again paid big bucks for expedited service, but brought the time down to 12 weeks from request to receiving it. That should leave a 2 week "oops" window.)

Glad things worked out and crossing fingers hoping there are no more glitches

Sounds like they were having technical issues.

Classic example of "keeping a grip" on cruise weirdness that would p.o. anyone else.....and make you want to throw things...or make it worse...good for you.....one thing this thing is good for, is venting....I can remember NCL doing a ship change on us that we actually knew nothing about until we logged in to pay....
