I always use my phone or local internet when in port, so really only need to pay for sea day connectivity if it's wanted.

Until very recently, I never got internet as cruising was my way to truly disconnect from work (too much time spent working during so-called vacation). I don’t use social apps - don’t feel the need to show people what I'm eating for breakfast...

The only day I NEED internet is the day before disembarkation so I can check in for my flight home. If that's a port day, I'm covered.

For the cost, though, it's cheaper to prepay for the duration than to buy each sea day once on board. We split it by the number in our party - everybody gets the best price :) of course, can only be used 1 person at a time that way, but since none of us are "social butterflies" it works.

excellent plan...I remember when the cell got tossed in the safe and NEVER came out for the duration except the last day....(((sigh)))

That last line tells it all....the poor so and so's who work for the cruiselines just enjoy it sooooo much........they're desperate for work and will put up with ANY beancounter abuse..and smile while they're being screwed...or else...hmmmmm...that might apply to paying customers as well...

Well, "The Points Guy" website weighed in on the subject. It expanded on what CCL and the other mainstream lines are charging.

excellent advice. Thanks for sharing

Lynn is enjoying a coffee.

I've seen a lot of discussion recently about CCL's increased gratuities, with many comments being negative. On the other hand, almost nobody seems to mention the even steeper increase in CCL's internet rates.

Gratuities have increased by about 10%, which I'm in favor of in the event that all of the gratuities are passed along to the crew as CCL has stated. Internet pricing, however, has been increased by a much higher percentage. As a comparison, another Carnival Corp brand (Princess) was until very recently offering their single-tier, higher bandwidth plan for only $10 per day. A somewhat comparable CCL plan is now $18/day, and Princess is now charging $15/day - a 50% increase. Unless satellite internet backbone rates have increased dramatically, these internet package rate increases look to be nothing more than a money grab.

As an aside, I doubt that most people realize that their cell phone plan probably offers free internet in most of Carnival's Caribbean ports of call and probably Mexico as well. In my case, I've found my T-Mobile plan provides usable internet service in every port, including places like Amber Cove and Princess Cays. I can manage without internet service at times when the ship is out to sea.

I hardly use my cell..got it for emergencies, and I have only a few apps on it, weather, live traffic, useful stuff...probably less than 20 pho nos..mebbe 20-30 pics..and if it wasn't for more cruise lines almost requiring you use your cell while onboard, it would stay in the safe onboard like it did for years. Never felt the need to "look busy" or try to impress with a cell pho hermetically attached. We get away using the free minutes that come with the package.

OGW, I've had posts disappear off and on for years..going way back. So has AB..I always blamed it on some kind of glitch, not mods editing. AB was a little more paranoid, I remember him thinking "they" were at it again. I'm sure its a glitch, but for what reason, we'll never know. For example..I join a roster so the countdown clock works. If someone posts, I'm NEVER notified. They investigated...couldn't explain it or fix it. So be it.

As far as "friends" go, altho we've never met (and might not) there are several in here who I would miss terribly. I for one, am VERY picky about the use of that word. Extraordinarily picky. Cyber is what it is.

I can assure you there was nothing controversial or vulgar in that post. I think it's more of a technical issue. I posted, then pulled it back a couple times to edit and I believe when I do that it triggers some sort of "hold" on the post. The reason you see 14 posts but only count 10 is because I tried to repost it a couple times, only to find them also swallowed up.

No worries, I later responded to Y47's inquiry and briefly stated my salient points. That post is still up.

Interesting that the count on here shows 10 of 14 posts but only 10 show here. Based on this I would deduce that someone for whatever reason flagged ablemans posts and they are awaiting admin / moderator approval.

Thanks so much AuntiePinko.

I too have met so many new friends on this site. Thanks so much for being there for me, the lovely posts you make and the many posts that made me chuckle.

Thanks again :)

Lynn is grateful
