Packing light

Ladies, To the sea I go with the expected weather of 80 for 8 days. I want to pack light with minimal in mind. Is there anything you have packed you never used? Any tips are very appreciated. I have done the internet searching including Pinterest but I prefer the latest cruisers this time. Thanks

Anybody remember when airports used to have storage lockers for rental? I used to put our Winter coats AND my car keys in those lockers. Time have changed. Feeding off Yankee47's comment, for the past half dozen years (plus) I parked at an offsite private parking lot (could not beat the $20/week fee). I drove her and our bags to the airport departure gates (and yes, helped unload the suitcases), took her Winter coat and drove to the offsite paring lot, then I took the 10-minute walk to the airport.

On return, the opposite, we retrieved our baggage, I walked to our vehicle, then drove back to the arriving level, gave her her Winter coat, loaded the suitcases, then we drove home happily together.

P.S. The offsite lot is no longer an option. Prices changed. No longer a bargain. Now, the airport shuttle lot which is the newest best deal.

yas yas...Galveston will do that...once we (I) decided to leave our hoodies in the car...convinced her we didn't need em....when we debarked it must have been 40'ish...long walk thru the terminal, and then mebbe 200 yards to the parking building just across the street...I was freezing, but kept my mouth shut...she was freezing, ...and didn't........lesson learned...no matter how inconvenient, bring enough options to deal with............THE WEATHER!!!!

We travel with down jackets that can be rolled up into a very small area, because we tend to cruise in the Winter (from Colorado). In fact we have specific jackets for cruising. I also wear a few layers of sweaters that I can (and do) wear during the cruise. Our last cruise (January 2023) out of Galveston, I was so glad we travel this way, because we had some unusally cold weather. We actually had the proper clothing to stay warm.Big Smile

PS: Because this thread was directed at the ladies, I was remiss not to point out that my wife has a similar ensemble and procedure for traveling.

Boy did you nail that one. Traveling from Wisconsin on our yearly "mid winter break cruise" requires me to leave home wearing a hooded sweatshirt over a zip up sweater over a long sleeve henly over a short sleeve tee shirt. I can usually shed the sweatshirt and sweater at our connection point (usually Atlanta) then shed the henly when we reach Florida. I then reverse the order on the way home. Fortunately all the items are lightweight, so they can go in my carry on backpack.

Packing also depends heavily on point of origin and time of year. Those from the colder climates cannot just leave all of their warm things behind them and have to carry them for the duration of the trip as they do need those warm things for the last leg home. And of course there is no where to leave them ... if you want them back that is.

Wow!

I have one light but bulky sweater which I will wear to the cruise with my white sneakers which will give me more room. Trying really hard to only bring one sandals and my water shoes.

I might (keyword "might") be inclined to attend a Packing Light seminar, well maybe not a seminar, so let's say a class, if it means no more time at luggage carousel AND if the attendance gift is a strapping young lad to hoist bags into the overhead on the plane...

I am getting better at editing during packing but still cannot seem to go all-in-one on carryon only. Maybe it's a sickness that requires I research support groups...

We can do a 10 day sharing a single suitcase and a single carry on.
