Online Passport Renewal Seems to be Extra Slow

Hi,

I decided to try renewing my passport online for the sake of convenience, and mailing stuff today makes me nervous. Has anyone else tried this? It has been in the "Recieved" status for two weeks now. That does not count the 6 to 9 week processing time once it's in review status. I'm regretting going this route. It seems to be taking longer than sending in an application by mail. Anyone else have experince with renewing online? I don't want to book a cruise until I'm certain I'll have the passport back. I'm curious to hear about others' experiences with renewing online.

Thanks!

CONGRATS!! sounds about right....the process is carefully calculated to make you crazy.....

I finally got my passport last week

It was in received status for 8 to 9 weeks and shipped the day after it was in reviewed status.

Do you have to make an appointment or are they still accepting walkins?

Thanks for the update, even though it isn't positive news.

Wow. You had a much better experience than me. I applied on January 29th and as of today (March 17) it's still in "Received" status. So, it appears they haven't even looked over my application yet. I did see that on March 8th they took down the option to apply online to make improvements to the system, so maybe other people are having the same issues. Who knows!? I'm glad I chose to book a November cruise instead of May!

How did you do it??? online?? or the old fashioned way?

Ours took just about 4 weeks for renewal. (Maybe a few days less). We renewed in December.

I hope so. It has remained in the "received' status for almost 4 weeks now..

I personally have not done this, but someone I know very well (and whose observations I trust) has. He said total time was under 6 weeks (from first online submit to having new passport in hand) and caused him anxiety due to initial status not accurately showing actual status.

He renewed just a passport book, not the card, if that helps.

Let us know how it goes - safe travels.

Most online processes (at least here north of the border) tend to work better and more smoothly than the manual processes. I think mainly because they are new and they have potential for cost savings so that is where all the attention goes.
