My time dining reservation questions

Hey everyone,

How many days out from your cruise can you first reserve "my time dining" times? My cruise is 83 days out, so just wondering how many more days I have to wait

Thanks

Hi Jake,

Welcome to the cruise world. Like many of us have experienced over the years, I hope you will enjoy the sea, the sounds and smells of and the camaraderie on board these ocean going vessels. Look for the good, there is a lot to be found.

You didn't mention which cruise line you are booked on but guessing from the tag on the bottom of your post in may be Royal Caribbean International.  However, my guess is that you want a "traditional style" dining experience. That means you have to select either their early or late seating. The two times for early and late vary depending upon the cruise line, usually between 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM for early and after 8:00 PM for late. When you book the cruises we have been on over the years you establish the times for traditional at the time you book even though it may be over a year before you sail. Can't understand why they didn't get this info from you at the start.

As for the alternative to traditional seating arrangement, these are usually called "anytime dining" or "open seating" in which you don't receive a permanent table assignment then but you are not relegated to show up at any particular time for dinner.

If indeed you want "traditional" and don't have a time, I believe you better get in touch with your travel agent again or the cruise line you booked with. I've never heard of them making you wait for months before giving you a traditional time slot unless, of course, the one you prefer is already booked up at the time you sign up and they have put you on a wait list. Sorry I can't help more as we sort of out of that ourselves since we prefer "Anytime" and we haven't cruised on Royal Caribbean.

I always book my dining time request when I initially book my cruise.  If possible I request whatever the cruise line calls their flex time as I prefer to decide when I want to eat.  We almost always get the same servers, usually even the same table.  Do not wait until you get on board to make your choice, do it right now.  You may have to be wait listed.  If you wish a set dining time, early is usually the more popular and harder to get.  I am very surprised that your agent didn't ask you about your dining choice.  This has never happened to me.

I realise that everybody requires different things on a cruise, but the idea of booking dining tables and reservations is really alien to us. We would have never taken our first cruise, if we have had to make bookings to eat. That is why we have only been with NCL with their freestyle concept. Eat when you want, where you want. When we go on holiday, we want to relax without thinking in advance when we want to eat. As I said though, personal choices

Thanks everyone,

I have cruise 8 times prior to this, and I am just wondering when is the soonest you can make reservations for "my time dining" online?

We request our dining time when we book. If you wait too late you'll be wait-listed.

"My time dining" is Royal Caribbean's term for open dining where you are able to decide on a daily basis when you want to eat dinner in the dining room. On some cruise lines you are obliged to prepay the gratuities when you take this option. NCL is not the only line that provides this dining flexibility. As an example HAL has the early seating @ 17:30, the late seating @ 20:30 and open seating from 17:15 until 21:00. If you want a specific time for the latter you can call for a reservation any time up until 15:00 on the day in question. We prefer the open option as it allows you to meet many more people by not being seated at the same table for every meal. In the event that you meet people with whom you make an immediate connection and wish to dine with them again, you can make arrangements with the concierge to seat you together at a future date.

When we book with a Carnival travel professional, they always ask when do you want to dine.  No problem, and you can dine on lido or steak house instead also.  We had tablemates we did not like, so we ate on lido deck

I knew this was an old thread when I saw that ewoodspark was a responder.

A year old thread being resurrected? I wonder why? Surprised

My Time dining and shows can be booked within 90 days of sailing on Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas ship.   Just go to cruise planner on Royal's website when you log into your account.  Just reserved shows and dining for September 17 2017 cruise.  Hope this helps!
