In the beginning…..

Does anyone wonder what this site was like in the beginning? Is anyone here from the early days? I hear tales of free swag. Any truth to that? Who has been here the longest? Grandma Jo maybe 🤔.

I have always liked the tone and the people on this site which is why I keep on coming back. This feels more like a warm group of friends that just happen to share an addiction.

I joined Jan 2013 through the shipmate app, don't remember if I found out about this side of it through "Comp" mentioning the affiliation at FunVille or through the app (but I do sorely miss his brand of sarcasms). But in the beginning I lurked more than posted.

Yes there used to be swag in the beginning to get people to post reviews and photos or refer people to sign-up mostly to build up the site. In fact the other day I was cleaning out the back bedroom and came across our cruiseline.com lanyards. I do think most of the items given out were also available to purchase from the site's logo store of cruise essentials (HEY Mitch think about bringing that sideline back).

Once I started to notice more screen names from the old FunVille is when I became more "vocal" here. This site has a much more personal feel than FB, cruisecritic or some of the other social sites.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I forgot to mention Bennett. He's the person that invite me to join. He has great insight into NY sailings (as do several of you now on the forum) and was a very funny fellow. But stepped over the line a time or two too often (according to the guidelines). Thanks Bennett if you're reading this!

Life happens. Can't hide from it on cruise ships, or anywhere else for that matter. Even tho the title/rank is patently meaningless...I'd vote for AUNTIE to be promoted to Fleet Admiral...

Yep, so many people have moved on. Maybe they found another place, maybe they are bored with some of the topics, maybe they were kicked off, so many maybes. I miss them greatly. However, the core group that is here now, are terrific. Those that have been around and visit now and again, are wonderful (wish you were around more often). Newcomers are aways welcome (hope you'll become a regular poster). All in all, this is a fun and safe place (from my perspective) to talk about cruising and to now and again talk about life. I appreciate all of your advice, wisdom and humor. I thank those that encourage me to be my best. And hope those that have left (for any reason) continue cruising, advising and are happy. To those who have been "banned" but monitor the site (or whatever)...thanks (you know who you are!).

There are still a few of us on here that remember those friends.

Aunt Pinkie knows who has REALLY been here the longest. Someone here, goes back to the days, when, as I have heard, this site was called MeetOnCruise.com. Now, that person is long gone, as is everyone else from that era.
Here is what has been relayed to me. It was quiet, unlike Funville. There were very few members / posters. One woman was known for round the world cruises. No one was rude or insulting.,,this is just what I have heard anyway.
