I think its a bunch of BS.

When I cruise as a single man. Why do I have to pay double booking?. A cabin balcony costs me $2800.00. Why not $1400.00?. That is one thing I feel about crusing is a rip off.

You do get a break on taxes.

There are still many deals where 3 & 4th are 1/2 off or free. NCL has run many of those in the past year. As for the single supplement that has always been the case. I believe if you check out resorts they also do the same. Long and short thinking on this is that one person is taking the real estate that they could get money for two hence the premium. I agree that it should not be exactly double because you do not eat double the food but cruise lines look at it as potential revenue lost having a single in a room where pricing is based on double occupancy. Although they do not offer single balconies NCL now offers rooms for singles called Studios on their newer ships.

there was a time when the third person in the cabin paid 1/2 price, and the fourth was free.
