I feel sorry for the new cruisers...they dont know about the "good old days"

Talk about another cost, fuel and cheers package increases. The new cruisers did not know the good old days. We have been cruising 11 years now all on Carnival. Back in the "good old days" The cabin attendent visited your cabin in the morning and evenng for turn down service and left chocolates on your pillow. Not now. You had a nice ball point pen in your cabin, not now..a stub of a pencil .Had lobster on all cruises in the mdr on short cruises, not now. All you could eat lobster....not now. Midnight buffet, not now, ice cream all night, not now, pizza all night, not now, free popcorn, not now. Gold vifp party, not now...just platinum and diamond. Excellent vifp appreciation gifts..like a night light with a carnival logo, a nice blanket, blue tooth speakers, a big duffel bag...not now. just junk. Yes the new cruisers think they are getting something and paying more for it. We are on a cruise on halloween, and booked a cruise on jubilee to check it out. We will probably cruise once a year as it aint worth the cash. Been to all ports carnival cruises to and they are boring now, we are not beach people as we live near 2 beaches and carnival loves shoving beaches our way. Yes we miss the days of old and some of the newbies may say quit cruising, as that is one less in line, true, but we did not pay as much as you

great thread! the chocolate midnite buffet was so fun.

now the seafood lobster night is on RC cruises of longer than 6 days and boy has it gotten chintsy. i asked for another lobster tail and they said no.

i will always love cruising but i think they are still hurting from COVID. hopefully they will bring back a lot of what we miss.

Remember when ships photographers used real film ? You would go to the photo gallery and spend a few minutes looking for your photos. The unpurchased pics went into a bin at the end of the cruise. Now, you just go look at your “digital folio” and either order prints or download to a thumb drive .
Some of you may remember a reply I made to someone who questioned the waste of unpurchased photos. It was probably on Funville way back when. I told them that there was a process that removed the ink from the paper. I added that sometimes not all of the ink was removed, and if they looked real close, there could be like a double exposure on their photo. Think ghost image. Seemed feasible, and they bought it. I swear I could write for the Onion.

People on cruises used to be polite to each other. Now, not so much. Rudeness is prevalent everywhere. From the buffet to the shows. There were always CHOGS by the pools, but when you try to save 10-12 seats at a show? C’mon. How many people remember trays at the buffet ? Now you have to ask for one. Even then you might not get one. Cabin stewards are stressed out and overworked. No more towel animals. Some lines have done away with stocked fridges in the cabins. Too time consuming to restock. Bigger ships, designed for families. Island ports trampled into oblivion. Bland and uninspired food (unless you pay extra ) remember chilled fruit soups? . I heard some ships were doing away with onboard entertainment , or at least cutting back. No more libraries. Kids glued to their tablets . More and more, parents leave their kids unattended. Hey, I was on a ship when a child drowned. Grandmother was in the casino, leaving the 7 year old to watch the 4 year old. Not sure where the parents were. They almost lost both kids , but one was revived. Rant over

Cruising no longer makes you feel special.
Carnival used to videotape the week

Let's not forget my favorite....the Midnight Buffet!

Another picture from 1986. For the few of you old enough to remember, instead of a sail away deck party, we used to have streamers and wave goodbye events as the ship left the pier.

Well said!

The only constant seems to be change. We adapt and move on. That's what has put homo sapiens at the top of the food chain. I think most people, especially the more senior, hate change. We don't adapt as readily as someone younger. But, we do adapt. We miss the way things were, but we are happiest when we embrace the inevitable changes and move on.

DAMN! That sounded right philosophical there didn't it?

I'll be cruising as long as I can with whatever changes are thrown my way.

I am happy I have been able to enjoy all that you mentioned. Sorry we missed the skeet shooting. Today’s new cruisers seem to more the: wall climbing, go carting, roller coastering, etc., type of cruisers. The cruise lines are adapting. We started cruising in 1998, and the room stewards were ninjas. They would check your room several times a day. I’m sorry others have not had those opportunities you mentioned but happy they get what they do. Not sure what the future holds, but for now it’s a good vacation for us. Maybe if we don’t tell them, they won’t know.

I take the opposite tack....we should feel sorry for ourselves..for the obvious reason...we experienced crusing the way it was meant to be...it really wasn't about the money....it would be a better experience for someone who doesn't know the difference....twisted eh??
