How many cruises ?

We were just able to take one of our 3 booked cruises. I think the one cruise we were able to take was one of the last ships to go out on before the final shutdown. Carnival like always was so good to us!! We enjoyed all the free extra ship board credits they gave to us on our recent Alaskan cruise.

We didn’t cancel any ourselves, but we had nine cancelled by the cruise lines – and all nine had been booked well before the start of the pandemic. We missed:

May 2020, Crystal Symphony

August 2020, Oceania Insignia

September 2020, Brilliance of the Seas

November 2020, Celebrity Apex

February 2021, Zuiderdam

July 2021, Avalon Passion

We moved both Celebrity Apex and Avalon Passion to the same itineraries exactly one year later. We have a future credit from Brilliance of the Seas. We got refunds for the other six, eventually.

On the bright side, we replaced those missed cruises with six trips to visit family in the Midwest, three trips to all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, two trips to all-inclusive resorts in Dominican Republic, and a trip to Las Vegas! In June 2021 we took a wonderful “Historic Trains of the Old West” group tour through Colorado and New Mexico. In July cruising opened back up and we’re trying to go on one a month – so far, so good!

I think you were on autopilot and quit thinking.

March 2020. A week before it was cancelled, I preemptively moved the cruise to June, naively thinking "this whole pandemic thing will be over in a couple months".

June 2020 cruise cancelled by CCL. I re-booked for March 2021 thinking "this whole pandemic thing would surely be over after a year".

March 2021 cruise cancelled by CCL. I re-booked for June 2021 thinking "vaccines have now been out for a few months now, so cruises should be restarting real soon".

June 2021 cruise cancelled by CCL. I re-booked for March 2022 thinking........................ hell, I don't remember what I was thinking.

We have had 4 cancelled and we leapfrogged the money forward to new bookings. We still have 207 days until our next cruise in May 2022. Hopefully things will have calmed down some by then.

How was the riverboat cruise?

Three here as well... all booked well before the insanity....and the usual assortment of credits and higher math with rebookings and Cruisenext coupons with NCL.... We won't talk about an assortment of OBCs that got lost in translation...Thanks for reminding me...there's still one out there we have to use by 11/22...

We have cancelled 3.

The initial one was at the start of covid. It was a 10 day eastern carib on the Gem scheduled for a March 16 2020 departure. We also had a 9 day Med cruise booked for Sept 2020 which we cancelled at the same time. We had then booked for a 9 day NE cruise out of NY to depart Sept 9 2021 but that got cancelled by NCL. We are now almost at the double digit dance for a 10 day eastern carib on the Gem. Almost full circle, just took 2 yearsd to get here.

We had 2 cancelled. Got our money back and spent it on staycations. A lot has to get right with the world before we go cruising again.
