Gifts for cabin stewards and other staff onboard?

Hi! Anyone have advice on whether or not cruise staff (I'm thinking of room steward & such, that are not officers) would appreciate handmade bar soap?

I always give cash and I have found small bags of good quality chocolates are very much appreciated, but in trying to support local craft people near me, thus, I have some very nice handmade bars of soap,

I thought might be nice to share/gift onboard.

I am concerned I might offend someone, by insinuating they are not clean?

I would be grateful of advice.

I truly don't want to offend anyone.

Thank you,

Pat

I give a bottle of liquor that I buy on the ship and just leave it in the room on our last day with a note thanking for the wonderful service.

Wouldn't it be handy, with crew feedback, if there was a care package we could sign up for, I'd definitely do that. I also understood that you meant the gift to be in addition to a cash tip! It's a lovely thought as the crew can really make your cruise extra special.

Patty no one is upset with your post!! I think we are all amazed with your generosity!! I know i am!! Thank you for starting this discussion it is always nice to here how much people care about others!!

Cash is still king to cruise staff.

That has happened to ALL of us...and no matter what "some folks" (kaff kaff) might think, its not some kind of vast conspiracy....heheheh.. I suspect that after you type something, and either "forget" to hit "SUBMIT ANSWER", or if you do and leave too quickly, it doesn't get saved....used to happen after one of my epic rants about something or other..especially after going back to "edit" it...then forgetting to hit "SAVE".I thought the KB was exacting some kind of twisted revenge for poking it too hard...then...someone in another group suggested "slowing down" after hitting save..like count to two,,,...hasn't happened since....is that the real answer?...beats me, I'd look it up but I'm using the book of instructions for "other purposes"....heheheh

What happened to my posts

PATTY...calm down...NOBODY is upset with you.....I think your tipping is quite decent and generous. and the idea of giving gifts along with it is very interesting. But US greenbacks are MY language of choice......

Thank you

I will purchase some Amazon gift cards, too.

Thank you.

I didn't mean to make people here so upset with me.

I understood that you were meaning additional gift. But then I’ve followed your previous posts. I also have heard that some crew have not been allowed off the ships and cash is not as easily spent as before. Some people suggest Amazon gift cards because many crew order from them as it gets delivered to the ship. Other people offer to buy whatever the crew needs when they get to port. Sometimes it is the basics: toothpaste, soap (so maybe your original idea works), shampoo, etc. Your heart is in the right place.

Please, please, please!

Understand I give cash, generously.

I'm really hurt you think I'm not tipping Crying

Last cruise (in January to Hawaii)

We paid set cruise tips &...

$60 to room steward

$5 each time room service delivered

At least $5 up to $10 each meal

Extra $2 for each drink

It was several hundred dollars in cash.

As well as small bags of good quality chocolates.

I fold origami & cut kirigami snow crystals.. I had many, many requests by staff to fold something or cut a snow crystal for them.

Please I feel really hurt & misunderstood.
