GANGWAY COLLAPSES IN PANAMA

Who is responsible for this one? not that it matters. Glad it didn't happen during the first few hours of embarcation or debarcation stateside. THAT would have been 10x worse.

We too refuse to fly and I am only good for 1 day driving hence our choice for NE ports.

Agreed, but we live in the upper Midwest (WI) so driving is not an option. I mentioned in a previous post that we're considering retiring to the FL panhandle. One of the reasons in the "Pro Column" is the driving distances to cruise ports. FYI: Pensacola is a maximum of 9 hours drive time to all the major cruise ports in Florida, AND only 8 hours to Galveston (not taking any construction traffic into account of course)

As usual, increasing knowledge is increasingly expensive. You gotta do it to make an informed decision.

My wife and I sailed on the CCL Magic back in May on it's maiden voyage out of Norfolk. I have mobility issues too, hip and back. We found the larger ship was tiring as well. But the worst part for me was the embarkation at Norfolk. The terminal only has one elevator to the floor where screening begins and a lengthy line when you get off it or the stairs. Seeing the elevator line we opted to try the stairs only to greet that long line at the top. Lesson learned. Norfolk just isn't suited for large ships.

Understand completely. Interesting decision. We're in the same category, more or less...Her more, me less...But because we REFUSE to fly, and I won't spend more than 1 full day on the road, it is what it is.

Almost. We had booked a March 23' sailing out of Galveston aboard the Vista, but had to cancel due to an announced family event during that week. As it turned out, that was a blessing in disguise, because we learned a lesson on our past cruise aboard the CCL Magic that is going to affect all of our future cruise planning. The Magic was the largest ship we had sailed on to date. Both my wife and I have mobility issues (me: back, her: hips and knees). Although we are still ambulatory, we only have a limited amount of steps in us each day. We found that the Magic wore us out earlier than smaller ship we had been on. So, our new tact will be to book cruises on the smaller ships while they're still around. To that end we rebooked our 3/23 Vista cruise to a 2/23 cruise aboard the Spirit out of Miami.

BTW have YOU ever cruised out of Galveston or NOLA?

Yeah, I wonder if I had just posted the very public photo without the comments if it would have passed moderation. Guess we'll never know.

C'est la vie say us old folks.

Well this "old folk" has something to say about censorship, but it won't pass muster in here..second time i'm posting this.

We drive down to both..NOLA a bit easier, even tho the mileage to both is almost identical...If somebody can find a way to get to Galveston Island without the blankety-blank road construction, let me in on it. Its major..won't be finished in my lifetime.
