BTW, the reason this is so important is that part and parcel of that new "Directive" is that the PORTS have to sign off on it...how does Galveston do that in light of the Govs' position?? Mebbe given enough local pressure he'll cave too.....and alot quicker than the CDC did....

Yeah, maybe...Anything to get the focus off our winter storm and power grid issues!

If it means the income from the cruise ships, I am sure the Govenor will grumble and complain, but will let the ships sail with the vacination requirement.

Just scanning the article, but it stated that Government agencies cannot ask for a vaccine passport. Since it is a state law, it doesn't effect the ability of the Fed government from asking, or private entities such as cruise line staff. It is basically a news story and nothing more.

That is an interesting link to read. Thank you for sharing that.

Does anyone know if the ports are federal? If they are this could be an interesting situation.

No, the ports are NOT Federal, unless you're talking about Naval bases. however, there are all kinds of Federal employees lurking about...Customs comes to mind, and of course an assortment of health/safety inspectors...The property is owned, usually, by a "local" entity created specifically by the municipality to run it....and so, in the end, given the tens of millions of $$ of revenue those ports generate for area businesses, not to mention the good old "port fees", the FED is going to have a hard time telling anyone what to do in them. At least it finally seems so........

The Fed has been pretty actively telling people what to do up until now. All they have to do is pull Customs out and then no ship can land or depart. If the Fed wants to see shot cards, then they will be able to ask for them, regardless of any State legislation.

Hopefully, though, the Fed has realized their mistake and are ready to rectify it.

Thats exactly what I was getting at BD...but you nailed it...want to "enforce" your power, without a legal basis to do so?...yank Customs, and not even freight can move. But, the chances of that happening aren't slim to nil, they're just nil. The effect of some kind of internal war between the port states and cruise lines and their ancillary businesses, AND the FED won't play well ANYWHERE....I still don't understand the selection of some "unknown" mid-level apparatchnik from an unknown dept within the CDC to suddenly go public with a 180. Its making me smile thats for sure........

Too true my friend ... too true
