How do you feel about the portion sizes of food served on Board? Are the appetizers big enough, entrees sufficient, dessert portion OK?

Do Cruise Ships Serve Too Much Food?

Yes, they are too big. For the past few years we have been eating smart and I can only eat about a 4 ounce steak at a sitting. I believe if they downsize the quantity and upsize the quality, things will balance out.
That being said, there is still those who load up at the buffet as if they will never have another meal......
Remember back in the 80's and 90's, the full size portions on each of the 5 courses of dinner ? After dinner you had to hit the Midnight Buffet with all the carved fruit, vegetables and the ice sculptures every night? Back then I was young and could pack away 2 dinners and then still eat at the midnight buffet and not gain an ounce.
Now most cruise lines have cut back on the serving sizes. I'm good with the servings since there are 5 courses they can all be smaller. At this age I'm not eating 2 main courses anymore and now I can put on a few pounds on a cruise if I'm not careful.
I think the smaller portions are good to stop a lot of the food being through away and keeping me from needing to buy larger jeans after a cruise.
For me, they are a good size. If anyone thinks they are too small, remember that you can always get more.
The only times that I thought that the serving sizes were too small were on NCL and that was awhile ago. Usually the serving sizes are fine with me. But, yes, you can always request an additional serving of something. We always requested two appetizers on NCL when we sailed that line. Perhaps the serving sizes are larger now on NCL.
