CRUISING HOMEPORTS MOVED FROM BALTIMORE

CCL Legend was in the middle of a cruise, will now return to Norfolk VA. Christine Duffy announced passengers will get "complimentary" bus transportation back to Baltimore (if they want to I guess) 233 miles away. CCL Pride sails out of Baltimore, as does RCL, NCL, and American. First order of business is to reopen the port...after the "investigations" (and the politicians) are finished...the lawsuits haven't even begun......Thoughts are with those lost, just working stiffs filling potholes...everyone else is merely inconvenienced.....for a looooooooooong time...........let the finger pointing begin.

Don't know exactly who sounded that MAYDAY, but who ever it was and folks who stopped traffic should all get medals...

Quite a change from the "old CCL"..y'know, the ones that played fast and loose with...(kaff kaff) certain rules and regs...until they got caught....and for those of us that dabble in "the great game" (and I dont mean bazeboll)....theres lots better places to put your $$...dry powder or not....theres going concerns that DON'T owe the equivalent of the national debt of some third world countries....those execs up on mahogany row must all have fractured toes.....from kicking those cans down the road.....

Of course there will be a loss. It’s interesting that only Carnival has been releasing their plans.

Sounds like Carnival will take a noticeable hit to the bottom line because of this. At least that's what the pencil pushers are predicting.

I'm sure this continuing situation unfolds, many things will be disrupted for short and/or extended periods of time. Thanks for posting this one. Happy to see Carnival was able to get a solution quickly for those currently at sea.

Not sure where Norfolk is with its port renovations for the next cruise season. Carnival Sunshine was/is scheduled to be relocated there from Charleston. This will probably have a big impact on that work too.

Here's the UPI article on the current situation: https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2024/03/27/baltimore-bridge-collapse-reroute-cruises/5921711544017/

Your personal thoughts are “right on”. I haven’t heard if there were any vehicles left on the bridge. My heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones. I am sorry others will have so many issues. I’m also glad no one was hurt on the tanker (at least none reported to be hurt). Happy that an alternative home port has been established so quickly.
