I have been watching a lot of YouTube videos about how important the cruise lines apps are preboarding and during the cruise. What I haven't see is any discussion having to buy a WIFI plan to use the while underway. Seem logical, what if you want an unplugged getaway?

Cruise Line Apps without a WIFI Package

HAL also does nor have push notifications for the App texts and there is no charge to use the text feature. Didn't use it during my last Carnival and Princess cruises.
I personally don't get an internet package as I use cruising to unplug - work will hunt me down during port days and that's plenty, lol. The only day I pay for internet is day before disembarkation if it's a sea day so I can check into my flight (sure don't want to risk losing an upgrade), occasionally I get a Passenger Service associate who will check me in, then don't even buy the one day. If I have to buy an internet package just to receive notifications for App texts, I will pass...

Same for RCI....especially the "It mostly works"
On RCI, with messaging, you have to have the app open to see if there are new messages. There are no push notifications.
Same is true on Carnival. I was notorious for turn in off! Honest, not itntentionally!
Glad someone likes our answers.....
No internet purchase required. However, on Carnival, if you want the "chat" option it will cost $5/person for the duration of the cruise. It mostly works.

Thanks for ur response it was perfect
Those HUBS are indeed free, and they only work onboard...just follow the prompts...but you should certainly download the app first.
Thanks for that :)
Lynn is so nice today
Saved me the trouble...you folks did just fine...you can do your "pre-boarding" activities at home on a device, but the pc is easier IMHO. Those HUBS are indeed free, and they only work onboard...just follow the prompts...but you should certainly download the app first.
Oh dear.....
