But how ……?

This is not a cruise question, just one to make you think.
I just saw a commercial for Flex products. Maker of Flex Tape, Flex Seal, etc. you know the stuff. Well, this was a series of product to help against a flood. They take a studio home, then tape , spritz, paint, etc all places water could get in if there was a flood. Then they flood the studio, showing how the water is kept at bay. When the water recedes you remove the seals. So my question is, after you seal all the gaps, how do you get into the house ? A ladder to the 2nd floor maybe ?
just wonderin’

How's that for steering the conversation back to cruising?

I’ve never travelled in steerage

You may be on to something there. The inventor of that product had previously done a commercial where he had sawn a boat in half, then cobbled it back together with his product, then floated it out to prove it's "seaworthiness".

Perhaps we should all should start throwing a tube into our suitcases to help out with any "spot repairs" while onboard.

Love the way you all think. I actually meant “magic” as the way to get into and out of the house. But McGiver is another option. Good to know that tape is that good.
