BACK FROM MY FIRST CRUISE SINCE COVID 19 AND CAN’T WAIT TO GO AGAIN

Just returned yesterday from enjoying myself on Allure of the Seas. Like most, I was a little nervous and didn’t know what to expect. It was also right before the COVID testing requirement changed from 72 hours to 48 hours was about to take effect. All the hype about having the correct documentation was true. You couldn’t get in the terminal if you didn’t have a negative COVID test and vaccine card that was checked against your passport. These documents were checked at 3 processing stations before getting your sea pass card. You are also issued a green bracelet to identify if you have been vaccinated. Completing the documentation online made the process much easier and faster. The disembarking was the best I’ve ever had. You put your luggage out at night, go to breakfast the next morning and leave your carry luggage in the room and after breakfast it’s back the room to wait for your disembark number to appear on the TV (no annoying announcements). Clearing customs was a breeze, no questions, just photo recognition. Scheduled for 7:30 am departure, called 15 minutes early in the parking lot by 7:35 am. The most difficult part was walking down those ramps. Now for being on the ship: masks required if not eating or drinking or outside with social distancing.

dining - the Windjammer tables were setup for social distancing and staff served you the food. Dinner was only served in the main dining room. Vaccinated people on deck 3, non- vaccinated on deck 4.

shows: specific times for vaccinated and non-vaccinated or different areas of the main theater. Overall the ship offered more Live music, but less audience participation activities ( no belly flop or hairy man contest, no love and marriage game and of course no Quest). So if you’re not into water activities, ice skating, or wall climbing it’s a good time to just relax. I did enjoy the Dazzles Night Club.

casino: the machines were setup for social distancing, and mask wearing, but it was monitored.

ports of call: if your party was not vaccinated you could only take ship sponsored excursions and you were tested frequently at your expense. The only country that checked for vaccinations and negative test was the Bahamas.

elevators - maximum 6 people and for the most people adhered to it.

Now that I’ve been on the ship I can’t wait to go again. Next one for me is Dec. 2021. Wishing everyone safe travels when you go.

Nice run down. Hope things get better before your December cruise. We have one next month so we'll see what things look like.

LMAO ... I so do resemble that remark .... But ... I gotta cruise ...

50% of me agrees with you, 50% doesn't care and wants to cruise anyway, and 50% is permanently in la-la land....sooooooo

Good to hear your cruise went well. Too many hoops for me to jump through to get on a ship right now but I am glad there are those of us who can still cruise.

Based on my experience, anyone that was not vaccinated, all in the group were treated as not vaccinated. Please check RCL’s website for the most current COVID requirements. My next cruise is in Dec. on HAL and I’ve already received emails regarding new Visa requirements due COVID for some countries. Things are changing so fast, you have to check the cruise lines website for yourself and a little of peace of mind. I hope you get your passport before you leave, I have no knowledge about the birth certificate being accepted in place of a passport.

Thank you for your review. We are to do the Explorer the first part of January, 2022. My main concern (7 others have their passport), I renewed my passport, and so far it has NOT arrived, but says "In process. I did check with my Agent, and she checked with RCL, and they said I would be find as long as I had my birth certificate with seal, and Drivers license with star. I just checked now, to see if I would have a problem at the ports, and RCL customer rep checked to see, and said I would be fine at the 7 ports we would be at, so this eased my mind. Yes, I WANT my passport, but I wanted to make sure. I know you were talking about the vaccinated, and not vaccinated people, being in different areas. Even if my d-i-l would get a notification from her doctor that she cannot do the shots, do you know if she would still have to be in another area? Just curious about that, as I hate to see her by herself when eating, etc.

I enjoyed reading your review and you did reach some very good people here. Just wanted to let you know in case you wanted to reach more folks.

Thank you SOOO much! Very helpful :)

All they checked was the date. So, as long as your test reads within that 2 days prior to sailing you will be ok. I got my test at CVS and had my test results within 15 minutes and a link to print the results within 2 hours. I got the appointment online, provided my insurance information and I was good to go (no money required.). Hope all goes well for you and enjoy your trip.

This is probably a stupid question BUT....we sail on the Oasis on Oct. 17th and I am more nervous about finding a rapid test around our area (which has been difficult unless we want to spend $189 pp) or using the at home one we purchased that you use the telehealth person. My question is....we sail on Sunday at 6:00 PM so we have to test either Friday or Saturday. I want to get it over with ASAP so can we test ANYTIME on Friday? Even at 12:01 AM? I am determined to be on that ship when it sails and don't want to ASSUME anything :) I called RC but the person I talked to put me on hold many times and I wasn't confident in his answer. Just wondered if you might know :) Thank you in advance :)
