$4 Million for a year-long cruise?

I feel so poor. I think $3,000 for a weeks cruise in a nice balcony is a good deal. But this article ??? This cost ???

I would like to hear comments regarding inside cabins, balconies, suites, mega-suites etc. Wat do you think is a reasonable price for a cruise. Assume one week. You can multiply by 52 if your abacus is working properly.

We paid $4 million for a cabin on a cruise ship that will sail the world year-round. We want to travel in total comfort, without the 'bag drag' from place to place. (msn.com)

Well, actually the title of this is NOT accurate as this is NOT a year long cruise but the purchase of a cabin that can spam more than a year. That is what the 4 million is for. The yearly cost is "cabin will have a roughly $132,000 annual fee that includes most food and beverages on the ship, WiFi, and housekeeping, among other perks." That is a far cry from 4 million for a year. The other thing to consider if you are pricing this is that this is for a 2 bedroom cabin which usually equates to a suite last I checked. Yep, it may be a tad expensive but I don't consider it in the realm of ridiculous.

Do It! I dare ya! Besides, I'm sure that long suffering "saint" you live with deserves it.

LOL, I read the article and I don't know if that's something I'd want to do, even if I was in a position to do so. Basically, he bought a "condo" on a cruise ship for $4M. Sure, you can look at it like real estate, but is it really? Obviously it's a very exclusive market, but I wonder just how large that market actually is. My guess is either he (or his heirs) gets really lucky and finds another buyer, or they will end up having to sell it back to Storylines at a hefty discount. For someone who's being described as a successful businessman, that doesn't sound like a wise decision to me.

Not that it matters to him. It sounds like he's flush enough to afford it. In addition to the $4M buy-in, the article states he also has to pay $132k per year, which is, in effect, cruise fare. No worries though, for according to him that's close to what they already spend each year for vacations anyway!!!!.

Color me suspicious. This article isn't passing my smell test. If it's true, then good on him, but I don't know......

Should I ever be so fortunate as to be the winner of a big lottery, I would really consider this option. The "World" was a concept a few years ago and this is something much the same. I may not be on the ship all the time, but travelling to a place to board, then sailing for a few months, certainly is a selling point. Any ocean view condo or house in an exotic place will probably run you close to that, plus taxes and maintenance.

One would have to assume that you can have family members and friends board the ship to use you place for short periods of time.

Well, when my "ship" comes in.........

Dunno how he managed it, even after 23 years...cagey investments? As I once posted, I have a useless bro-in-law lives in Panama retired E-8 with about that many years, NEVER played tag with anyone, retired quite awhile ago and he's awash in $$...can't possibly spend it living there...I got out...no...amend that...escaped is better in 69...E-5..grunt..."that place".....even with the extra pay for "living dangerously" I didn't make what you did...I could charge that cruise in a heartbeat...well...I "could" charge it, but all my cards together wouldn't dent it...the computers woukd get a good laugh tho...

P.S. The author of the article retired from the US Marines in 2014 with 23-years service (good for him).

I completed 6-years service in the Navy as an E5, in1979, earning $214 -- EVERY OTHER WEEK !!!!!

LOL - no $4 million cruise for me Crying
