Carnival Cruise Line has officially announced the final zone of its new Excel-class ship, Carnival Celebration. Named ‘The Gateway’, this area will be a travel-themed space offering dining, entertainment, and shopping venues.

The Gateway completes the six total zones that makeup Carnival Celebration. Previously announced areas include: Celebration Central, Lido, Summer Landing, the Ultimate Playground, and 820 Biscayne. The ship is the second Carnival vessel to be powered by a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) propulsion system.

Inside The Gateway, guests will be treated to a celebration of all things travel. The space includes lounges, restaurant venues, gathering destinations, and entertainment options all designed with airport and cruise ship-inspired elements of the past and present. The zone is located on decks six and seven of Carnival Celebration, the same area as the French Quarter on sister ship Mardi Gras

“The Gateway was created to celebrate the enriching experience we all feel when traveling – not only because of the destinations we travel to, but also the world of cultures we get to explore,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “We have millions of guests and team members who come from around the world to have fun together and create a welcoming and inclusive environment while sailing to new places – that is the beauty of traveling, especially on a Carnival ship, and that is what this zone will celebrate.”

Each night The Gateway will feature a different destination theme with all offerings supporting it, including music, drinks, food, and entertainment offerings. Some themes are set to include a Mexico Lindo night (complete with margaritas, agave tastings, and specialty foods), and an Exploring South America night.

The Gateway is home to the recently revealed bar and lounge, The Golden Jubilee. This special area celebrates the storied 50-year history of Carnival Cruise Line and all of its cruise ships.

Here’s a sneak peek at what guests will find exploring Carnival Celebration’s newly revealed zone:

Virtual Windows

The Gateway will feature 12 high-definition multimedia virtual windows that will display unique travel and cruise-related scenes. These 9.5’ x 5’ windows and 100-foot LED ceiling display will create a fully-immersive show for guests. By day, the space will have relaxing scenes like sunny skies, and by night the screens will display visuals that transport guests to destinations around the world that pair with that evening’s theme.

Latitudes

This lounge space is a central point of The Gateway. Modeled like a classic airport terminal, a special feature of Latitudes will be a mechanical split-flap board placed over the bar (similar to a departure board). This board will feature special messages about destinations and bar offerings. It will come to life periodically with motion, messaging, and a clack-clack sound like the departures board in airports and train stations use to make.

Emeril’s Bistro 1397

World-celebrated Chef Emeril Lagasse returns to Carnival Cruise Line with his second seagoing restaurant, Emeril’s Bistro 1397 (1397 representing Carnival Celebration’s hull number). The eatery will offer a wide range of international cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Gateway Atlas

The Gateway Atlas is a digital board that makes up a unique map. It will display the current position of all Carnival Cruise Line ships around the world.

Carnival Celebration is slated to make its official debut on November 21, 2022, from the line’s new Terminal F at PortMiami. The ship will spend its inaugural season sailing 6- and 7-night Western and Eastern Caribbean cruises. Bookings for 2022 and 2023 sailings are now open.
