First Norwegian Cruise by Hildy963

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Overall we had a very good time. The biggest negative was disembarking the ship as stated above. The Getaway is a beautiful ship with plenty of onboard activities.

Best cruise & ship ever for me! As of now. by daddydoug11

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Getaway

We had a small group of 26 people, not all hung at together all the time...that was okay. This by far, and as of now, was my favorite ship and cruise.

A Midwinter Getaway on the Getaway by redbeardhoosier

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We made a somewhat last-minute decision to book a cruise after the holidays, to "make up" for our Irma-interrrupted cruise the previous September. We originally thought about a New Year's cruise, but Norwegian's 3rd/4th guest Free at Sea promotion was only available for the first week in January. We picked this itinerary because the ports of call were different from the Disney cruise we had booked for the following May, and we picked the ship because it was a newer ship and also a larger ship. As I suspected, I found that I am much happier on smaller ships with fewer passengers. Due to the timing, this cruise still had quite a few college-age and twenty-something partiers. The lido deck was always active. That really didn't bother me much, because I don't tend to spend much time on the lido. However, the bars were also always packed in the evening. All that said, I enjoyed the cruise and the ship. The biggest problem for us was that our youngest daughter got very sick early in the cruise - the sequestered-in-the-stateroom kind of sick. So, I spent most of my time the first four days running to buffet and restaurants getting food for sick child and attendant wife, and trying to keep oldest daughter company. We really didn't get to relax until the last three days of the cruise. None of that is the fault of the cruise, and in fact, the service we experienced from our stateroom steward and dining room staff was top-notch. They really did their best to help make our cruise the best experience it could be under the circumstances. Background My wife and I are in my early 40s, we have two tween-age girls (ages 10 and 9 at the time of sailing, currently 12 and 10). This cruise was our second overall, and first with Norwegian Cruise Line. We are reasonably experienced cruisers, having taken (at the time of writing this review) five cruises on Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Disney, and MSC (and with five more booked on Norwegian and Disney). We travel as a family, and look for a mix of relaxation, family time (these two being my personal #1 priority), good food, entertainment, and fun in a cruise vacation. While I try to incorporate educational experiences, we do not usually seek out action/adventure experiences. We booked stateroom 12182, a category M2 family mini-suite with balcony, with promotional free-at-sea Ultimate Beverage Package and 3rd/4th guests sail free.

What a Wonderful Experience! by lizziesstuff

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I love this experience!! Highlights: Dining in a good variety of restaurants, nice variety of activities & shipboard events, friendly staff, 4 awesome ports! Can use improvement:  Main bars were very difficult to get a drink (it helps if you visibly tip in cash on top of the 18% built into your cruise). The only adult pool was closed for about 24 hours due to someone vomiting in it (should have been flushed out and running a lot sooner); I would have given the cruise 5 stars if it wasn't for those 2 problems. The staff - almost all of the staff seemed to love their jobs which made for a positive feeling all the way around. Shore excursions -  Roatan, Honduras we went Scuba diving, and that was amazing. In Belize, we took the NCL tour of The Belize Zoo with the Holler Monkey experience, and that was ok, we wished there was a little more substance to the tour, for what we paid for. In Costa Maya (Mahahaul), we went to the Dzibanche Mayan Ruins which you can climb on many "pyramids" and ruins, and that was really informative and fun (it was worth taking a 2 hour drive each way to climb on and explore the ruins). In Cozumel, we went on the Dolphin adventure, which also included swimming with the manatee, a sea lion show, a lunch, unlimited beverages and transportation. We also snorkeled there for an extra charge for the equipment rentals. This day long adventure was my favorite! Downside: The shore excursions were maybe an hour or in some cases, 2 hours too short, so we always felt rushed. All in all, I would definitely recommend this cruise, we are already planning our next cruise!!

Terrific Seven Day Western Caribbean! by motoitalia

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Another great seven night Caribbean cruise on Norwegian. First time on the Getaway. Western Caribbean itinerary included St. Thomas. Pro Tip: Take a taxi to Red Hook Ferry port and the ferry to St. John, which is a much nicer island than St. Thomas. While in St. John, spend time at the incredible 'The Beach Bar St. John' which is only 50 yards from the ferry port. When in San Juan, skip planned excursions, and just walk around and enjoy the beauty of Old San Juan - have some mofongo, and buy some rum at good prices at a local shop. At Puerto Plata, do a rum distillery tour, buy some cigars, and enjoy the friendly people and the beautiful countryside in Dominican Republic. The Getaway has the lovely 'The Waterfront' bars on the side of the ship, which give you a wonderful place to have a cocktail at sunset. Ocean Blue specialty restaurant is worth a visit if you prefer seafood, and the main dining rooms are really good to excellent at both breakfast and dinner (why eat at the buffet when you can have a freshly prepared and plated meal with service in a white tablecloth restaurant?). On board, we hung out at the Vibe Beach Club a lot - totally worth the up-charge for the adult-only, private bar, deluxe cushion loungers area which was never over-crowded, even on days at sea. So many bars! Our favorite was the Prime Meridian bar, located between Cagny's and Moderno. It's a classy dark-wood pre-dinner cocktail bar with a good selection of some premium spirits. We did the Premium Plus beverage package which gets you unlimited premium selections like Verve Clicquot champagne, Macallan Quest single malt scotch, etc. It's pricey, but you also can order a bottle of premium wine at dinner. Overall, no regrets or disappointments - we really enjoyed this cruise and looking forward to our next one on Norwegian.

Haven Suite by brettgoguen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

It was a very good time for all. My niece had a choice for her 21st birthday between Las Vegas and this cruise and  she chose the cruise. I took her and my 19 year old niece (cousins) I gave each of them $400 to gamble with and made sure they got to do some snorkeling at Tortola and dolphin interaction at Atlantis in Nassau.  If you can afford it book a Haven suite.  My older brother and his wife also accompanied us

Great Cruise by tobalynn

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

We enjoyed our cruise on the Getaway. We wish we would of had more time in each of the ports. Each city had so many things to see and do. The tours do not give you much free time to shop or look around. We did like each of the tours we picked though. I highly recommend doing the Exclusive tours in St. Petersburg. We had very knowledgable tour guides and get off the ship quicker. It was nice just having around 12 people on those tours.

NCL 7 day cruise on the Getaway. by ROADMENcruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway

This was our second cruise and we loved it! The ship was amazing and the staff were really great! If you’re going on a cruise with your kids, watch your damn kids! It’s not NCL’s responsibility to be the babysitter. My only real issue with the boat, was the size of the main pool. Way to small.. Our room was great, our bartenders, (Max and Ramel) were the shit! You wanna have a great cruise?! Tip these workers that bust there butts for you! We had a great cruise, because we weren’t looking for deficiencies. Doesn’t mean we didn’t have or see any. We just didn’t let it ruin our time...

Spring Break Cruise 2020 by kaldob33

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway

We had a great cruise. It was the last cruise before the COVID-19 pandemic caused NCL to cancel all itineraries. They took many extra precautions to prevent anyone from getting sick. They did a great job taking care of everyone and were working extra hard to keep everything clean. We were very impressed and had a great time. The weather was excellent except one day where it rained for a few hours at port. Lots of kids and young adults - as expected for a spring break cruise. Great entertainment, great food and drinks, casino was nice, and lots of variety in activities throughout the day.

Great cruise vacation by maer17

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Getaway

This was a great trip and worth every penny. The getaway was an excellent choice, it was clean, the food was great, the entertainment was awesome and i met a lot of great people on board. Although i had 9 days i didn’t have enough time to do all the things there was to do. I loved my time on the getaway and will most definitely do a longer cruise on her to Europe on my next vacation. The ports of call were interesting I appreciated the history and culture of the different countries i had the opportunity to visit.
